I ran across a 25-5 (.45 acp) today in a pawnshop with a non fluted cylinder. Looks like a replacement cylinder to me as it appears to be a duller blue that the rest of the gun..... But the guy is adamant that it is pure factory.

What do you think? truth..?

Welcome to the forum!

The 25-5 is a .45 Colt, not .45 ACP. That is the model 25-2.
The factory made the model 25-7 and 25-9 with non flted cylinders. It's fairly common for a cylinder to be a different shade of the same color from the frame and barrel, or any combination of the mix. Here's a 25-7 in .45 Colt-

Man... You got it for sure. I did not really pay enough attention.. Obviously... Thank You, Sir.

What is the value on this gun is nice but not like new condition?

If the one you saw is exactly like the one in my pic, they are going up in price lately. I would say one in decent condition (meaning fired, but not worn out or all scratched up) would bring around $700- $800 now. They didn't make that many of them, so they are in demand. They have the correct sized throats in them (end of cylinder that the bullet comes out of and into the barrel) unlike some of the earlier model 25's. They are extremely good shooters too! The non fluted cylinder does nothing for strength contray to popular misconceptions. It simply added weight to the gun, and was something S&W was starting to do to a lot of their guns in the late 80's-early 90's.

Well... I couldn't stand it. I will post the picture when I pick it up tomorrow....

I have a Model 25-13 Mtn. gun in 45 Colt. It is probably my favorite hand gun. I know it is my favorite caliber. You will not be disappointed. By the way, what grips are those in the picture and do you like them? Mine came with Arends fingergroove and they look similiar. Thanks, Brad

Welcome to the forum!

Brad,
the grips in my picture above were made by forum member kurac. Yes, I like them, and so does anyone else who buys his grips. They are very comfortable, and fit the gun extremely well. Those were made from Cocobolo.

Very Nice!

A 25-7 or 25-9 is the next one the list for me. I don't know what you paid for yours but I've come across 3 in shops fairly local to me in the last 6 months. The cheapest was priced at $899 the most expensive is $1100.00. Last I knew are three are still for sale.
