Ok, I know this topic has been beat to death, but my search skills are clearly lacking.

(Is there a search function cheat sheet sticky some place?)

I have a nice nickel 25-5 I’m just starting to mess with. I do not reload (at this time.). I have done some informal shooting with it, and it certainly goes bang and rings steel. But I have not shot it for groups.

I did get access to some pin gauges and found that a 0.455” will pass through the throats, but a 0.456”will not.

Assuming using factory jacketed loads, is this something to be worried about? Anyone else with dimensions to share and performance results?

What about cast loads from folks like Buffalo Bore or Underwood?

Thanks for any insights or direction to other threads that have flogged this topic.

Sorry I can't help. My 25 - 5 shoots any factory ammo I put in it perfectly. No problemo. I have heard of issues with previous models but that by the 25 - 5 problems were solved.

Mine, with .458 throats, shot under 2.5" at 25 yards with warm loads with .454 bullets. Much worse with soft loads, or with .452 or jacketed bullets.

I have read of folks results both ways! It appears to me that the target revolvers in .45 ACP had a great reputation back in the bullseye day and I believe they had oversize throats too, as mine do! Maybe it just depends on the gun, I don't know. I know my 29s have throats of .432 and shot .429 bullet very well, about the same amount oversize.

In any event, jacketed bullets should be less affected than lead. And, I would suspect that it depends on the gun and exactly the amount of accuracy you expect from it. Some experimentation may be in your future.
