was wondering if a 25-5 45 Colt could be sent in and a 45acp cylinder fitted. Is it feasable and worthy or would it hurt value. Was thinking could shoot both calibers by swicthing out cylinderd then. Thanks for any feedback

The B/C gap would be HUGE

This question has appeared regularly on the forum.

The only way to shoot 45 a.c.p. out of a gun originally chambered for
45 Colt is to have the cylinder cut for mood clips then
either caliber can be fired without changing anything.

i am working on a project gun and am comsidering having
T.K. Custom cut the cylinder.

I realize this thread is old but I have recently became interested in T.K. Custom cylinder conversion. The main question I have is how accurate the 45 ACP is after the modification due to the larger chamber mouths. I think they run around .454" on my gun which is oversize for the 45 ACP.

Do not modify it.

You have all but answered your own question.
If you do not start with .452 chamber throats you will (possibly)
be looking for heartache.

BUT,, why not call Tom at T.K. custom and ask him????

You would need to roll your own ammo with larger diameter bullets.

Ruger used to make a convertible that shot both by just changing the cylinder. I don't know if they still do or not. It ain't a S&W but they are out there.

My thought is the smaller acp bullet would not be accurate. I recently sold a really nice Colt SAA because of its oversize .456" cylinder throats. I decided it wasn't worth the money to have a new cylinder fitted to it.

Reloading the 45 ACP with a larger diameter bullet would undoubtly help but it gets away for the idea of using factory ammo.

Send it to S&W and have a properly throated cylinder fitted. I did just that with the pawn shop 25-5 that had .457" throats. You could then have it cut for clips and shoot the 45 ACP.

The old cylinder made a nice little pen holder too.

S&W did make a version of the 25 or 1950 with 2 cylinders back in the 70s or 80s.

I WISH I had picked one up then, darn it.

You might contact S&W and ask them. Maybe they can make a custom cylinder for the .45 Colt, but more likely you would have to start with a ,45 Colt and have them fit a .45ACP cylinder to that.
