25-7

There is a couple of 25-7’s on GunBroker. It seems someone’s always looking for this 45 Colt. They are very accurate and fun to shoot. Mine will be one of the last to go.

I've never shot one but by all accounts this model is accurate. I'll admit, I do like the looks of it and it doesn't seem like there are many out in the wild for sale very often.

If I remember right about 2000 made. Does not seem to be enough to go around. I wound up with a 25-7 and the later 25-9. Not much difference that I can see. The 25-9 unfluted might be even more rare than the 25-7.

The 25-7 is unfluted with a brunion(matte black) finish w/lazer markings. 2000 made in 1989 with retail price of $439. Came with Hogue grips. Mine from that era now wears wood.

It seems to me the 25-7 is an example of a situation that seems to occur repeatedly with S&W "special runs".

The Model 25-7 appeared on the front cover of GUNS magazine way back in 1989 or-90. I really liked the way it looked and wanted one. It took me until 1994(pre-internet days) to find one at a local gun show. It was used very little and sold for less than the price mentioned in this thread.

Over time word spread that the gun was very accurate and had correct size throats(unlike say, 25-5s). Then John Linebaugh publicly mentioned how much he like his 25-7 and word spread. Now we can't find enough of them and the price is up.

When the slugs fit correctly, it is very accurate. It's has the accuracy rep because it was among the first of the S&W's to be produced with correct sized throats in .45 COLT.

I have a 25-5 , 4" . a buddy had it and panicked because the cylinder throats were over size so he sold it to me cheap . I simply cast all my bullets .454 . It is one of "THE " most accurate smiths I have . a real tack driver . So from my experience , the " over size " throat thing is totally over blown .

Keep an eye out for a 25-9 too. Mine is the only one I've ever seen in the wild. It's in my top 3 for favorite Smith revolvers - due to accuracy, balance, and aesthetics. I love the matte black and unfluted cylinder.
