.25 ACP ballistic test-vs .22 Long Rifle

I've been handloading the .25 ACP for a while now and I have found that a good, proper 50 gr. FMJ with a hard jacket (like the Sierra bullet) at an honest 900 FPS will give impressive penetration. I have seen successes and failures with this cartridge out on the street and I believe the failures were due to ineffective soft bullets that expanded and wouldn't penetrate. Hard bullets penetrate, regardless of caliber. I don't trust the copper plated Speer bullet, as these suffer dents from being dropped on the concrete floor. I have handloaded the Hornady 35 gr. XTP HP beyond 1000 FPS, but I don't trust small caliber hollow point bullets.

I also own a Beretta 21A in .22 LR. It's less reliable (in regard to both feeding and priming) and less powerful than the .25 in similar barrel lengths. For me the .25 ACP is the logical choice, as a second gun.
