Can anyone tell me is this Checkered Top Rib common on this 27-2 4'' Bbl ????
Here's some pic's !!!!! Suppose it was ordered by a customer from the factory that way ???

Yes, it's standard....

All M27's, and it's predecessor the .357 Magnum, all the way back to the Registered Magnum models starting in 1935 have had the checkered topstrap, it's the hallmark of this model, some of us consider this the pinnacle of S&W revolver models...

You might want to take a toothbrush or other nylon bristled brush, along with some Birchwood casey Sheath or Barricade, and really get after that rust that's gathering in the checkering. The 4" gun is highly sought after, BTW.;)
 
The top strap checkering is why some of us love the Model 27 and you should see it on an 8 3/8 barrel as it's just awesome.

Art, I'm gonna' try to show a checkered top-strap on my blued 27-2 but I don't think it'll show up like a nickeled gun will.

Mod 27-2, 8 & 3/8th inch.
