27-2 Trigger & Hammer

My buddy was trying to follow the instructions in the Kuhnhausen book and a Power Customs stoning jig with the KLN adapter to smooth & lighten the SA and DA trigger pulls on his 27-2. He did it to my 629-6 Stealth Hunter and it turned out terrific, much better than what the PC gunsmiths thought was good.

Unfortunately, it appears that this time when he did HIS 27-2 he removed too much metal and now the gun has this strange double cocking thing (if you pull the hammer back it stops at the normal SA cocking notch, but if you keep pulling it will lock at another spot farther back. You can also feel it come forward from this in the SA trigger pull. Not good.

So, he figures to buy new hammer and trigger assemblies and start over. If you get new OEM S&W parts, NOS or otherwise, does a new trigger have to be hand-fitted to each new hammer before they will even function, or do they do any finishing work on the new parts at the factory?

We know we need to smooth the sliding / breaking surfaces and stuff, but it's nice if the factory part at least has this started with the right angles in the right places.

A new trigger and hammer that fits that model should fit and function. You need too be very careful when working with these parts, You don't real want to remove any more metal than it takes for a fine polish. To me light pull isn't nearly as important as super smooth.

No way of knowing until you have the parts. Some new (or new to the revolver) triggers and hammers mesh well with each other and the existing lockwork from the get-go, and sometimes fitting is required.

Suggets a qualified S&W revolversmith do the fitting if needed.
