Hello all-going to look at a NIB 27-2 in presentation case with all tools etc. I am looking to buy this gun as an investment. What would be a current value for this piece assuming it checks out. Thanks Jim

It ain't perfect...

... but it's close. :)

Nice example of a common-ish issue.

I'd expect to see that gun with a $700 price tag around here but when money actually changed hands I bet it would be closer to $600-625 OTD.

Geography has alot to do with local pricing...

I traded into a 5" with no box or dox a couple of months ago.

He had it priced at $675.00

Got this lovely 8 3/8" S series 27-2 a few weeks ago for $599 OTD, no box or docs, but it is unusual in that it has 3Ts and red ramp front and white outline rear. The RR and WO were not usually fitted to the 8 3/8" 27s. The target stocks are diamonds and I believe they are original to the gun since it has the other 2 Ts. I'm very proud of it and will take this opportunity to show it off again:

I've seen them locally in similar condition listed for $650.

There are better investment opportunities available for both short and long terms. There are few firearms available that are more desirable to own than a vintage S&W Revolver, at least in my opinion. So the gun's value depends on whether you are trying to make a buck or if you want to own a fine firearm.

Investing in guns can be tricky and frustrating. Not for the faint of heart.

Investment eh?

I'll try that one on the wife. I get some great rationals around here. Last week it was the "gun doesn't fit my wife's hands". Turns out my wife's hands are the same size as mine. But an "investment"... Now that's just hard to resist.

Pete
