Pays to sniff about the LGS with visits.

Did a repair today on my day off for a friend and hit the store on my way home. Saw the 3" 24-3 still sitting in the case for $1399, told the owner for the umteenth time that was a GB price, not realistic and my friend behind the counter asked if he could show me the 5" 27-2. I answered for the owner that of course he could show me, he should show me.

I have a good relationship there, we give each other guff all in good nature.

OMG!! 98% condition. Bluing is perfect, no wear, forcing cone and timing are perfect. It's in a no name holster, but no worse the wear for it.

Turn line, but IMO that's not an issue. I use my guns, no safe queens.

Please forgive the bad lighting and crummy pics.

In the formerly great State of California, all consignment guns need a 30 day hold - to be sure they aren't stolen, dontcha know...

I call hogwash! Just another bs hurdle.

So apparently I came in 2 hours after the owner dropped it off. Talk about good timing!

So, another grail in the safe - after a 30 day wait of course, but it's paid for and just waiting its new home.

Now to get a Boyt rug for it...

Nice catch.

I agree with you on the 3-1/2 27-2 but unfortunately people on GB are willing to pay that price. I was doing some homework by checking GB ended auctions and sold prices range in the $1,100 to $1,900. Had a LGS get in a 27-2, 3-1/2, 98% condition, no box or accessories. Instead of selling it local he threw it on GB. Went for $1,500. I can't get a good deal right now in my area because of what they are selling for on GB. If I tried to argue that pricing is not realistic in my LGS they will just say "well I guess I will sell it on GB then". I did find a 28-2 4" in another LGS on Friday but had severe speck pitting and heavily worn finish, priced @ $600.

Thanks!

Just to be clear, it's a 3" 24-3 sitting in the case, not a 27. $1399 is @ $500 too high IMO.

They also have a 3" 629 and a 3" 29-4, but I had a 629-2 custom built with a factory LH 3" barrel and loads of custom chi-chi's back in the late 80's, so I passed.

If I could find a 4" 27-2, maybe eve a 3.5", I'd be tempted.

Wow, nice!

The price of old S&W's is so high now it's making my head spin. I know of a local shop with a 28 for $650 and that seems reasonable, and that's sad!

My Model 10 was $275 in 2012, now I see them for well over $400! People need to stop buying the things I like!

I bought my 27-2 6" in the presentation box with the fixin's (still have them) with target hammer/trigger for $250.00 total in the late 70's. 'Course it didn't hurt that I was a leo. Just after buying this I bought a 66-1 6" with red ramp front for $160.00. It appears that they were a good investment!

Congratulations on the purchase as a 27-2 with 5 inch barrel is the best balanced Model 27-2 made in my opinion.
