I found a 4" 27-3, not only that, it has a conversion kit for 357-44 B&D.

I bought it in spite of the conversion kit. You see, the sideplate is marked for the conversion.

No bueno, but it's a hard to find 4" 27, so I bought it.

It had buggered screws, so I easily replaced them. That said, the sideplate bothered me.

I found a sideplate for a 27-3 quite by accident and I bought it.

It arrived today and fit real good.

So now I have the 27 looking real nice with a set of smooth Kuracs, a new sideplate and screws. It's NOW in great shape and I can be proud of it.

Pics to follow of how it's looking now.

So, now I have an extra cylinder for 357-44 and the sideplate that goes along with it. I'll probably never use them.

What should I sell them for? Not exactly the type of thing you hear much about.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I'll take some shots of the cylinder, sideplate and the 27 tomorrow when we get some daylight.

I have 27-2's in every barrel length except for 4" where it is a 27-3.

Somebody had the hammer and trigger jeweled and I think an action job done on the gun. It is as nice a shooting N frame as I own. Not P&R but for a shooter they are sweet. Congrats

Very nice find. That was very fortunate to find a replacement sideplate that fit correctly. I'm anxious to see the after photos.

For the younger folks who may be wondering, B&D stood for Bain and Davis Gunshop in California; it's a .44 magnum cased necked down to .357; they had a couple of versions (first was bottlenecked, second case was tapered).

Now I'm reminiscing about the great gunsmith operations California used to have. Sigh.

Sounds like you got a nice shootin' iron there, man! I'm also looking forward to your "after" pics and especially how the sideplate fits.

I bought a nickel 27-2 in 4" a couple years ago off GB, but I also paid dearly for it too. I still don't know how it shoots as it was never shot before I bought it besides the test shots S&W shoots in it and I've resisted bringing it to the range so far. But I have other 27s I can shoot, including a 3 1/2" and 5".

A friend had a B&D conversion Model 28 6", nice shooting hog leg, wish I had bought it when he offered it to me years ago. As I remember it was a flat shooter out to about 100 yards.

Doing some research, I found the 357-44 B&D is equal to the 357 maximum.

That's quite a velocity gain!

Anyone have any knowledge or interest in this conversion kit?
