Hi, LGS has both a 28-2 and a 19-4 in the display case. Both are somewhat overpriced given the condition of the finish and the lack of original grips (both wearing pax) but they are within $50 of each other. $600 for the 28-2 and $550 for the 19-4. Both have 4 inch barrels. Both seem mechanically sound. Haven't tried yet to see if they would deal on either price.

I have a 6 inch Highway Patrolman, a 6 inch 19-5, and a 4 inch 586.

Use would primarily be for the range and occasional woods carry.

Given all that, does one strike folks as being a better choice than another?

Thanks.

I would need pics. Assuming both TIGHT, I'd likely take the one in better overall condition. Not an easy choice as both are great pieces.

I have two 4" 28's, one 6" 28, and no 19's.

Both! Can't go wrong. As a coincidence,I just bought a 28-2 and a 19-4 from the forum classified, from one seller. I could not make a "which is better" choice..so....in the sake of saving myself the all that anguish and misery of a "wrong" choice..I bought both.

See if they will go for a discount package deal.

Life is too short to regret those tough decisions..:)

Just cleaning down the new arrivals today..

Actually, the price on each is about par for the course with the gun shops in my area. That is, either one would be a decent buy hereabouts.

That would be a tough choice for me. It has often been said by some very smart folks that the M19 is the best choice for an all-around revolver. For extended full power .357 Magnum shooting however, the M28 would be a lot more comfortable for the shooter. Besides, the M28 is just as versatile, just a little bigger and heavier.

Since you already have one of each, albeit with six inch barrels, just buy the one you like the best or the one he is willing to give you the best deal on. Personally, I might lean toward the M28, but a 4" M19 is a mighty fine revolver too.

I would incline toward the N frame, as well. The 19 is handy, but the 28 will handle any ammo you care to feed it (within reason), and do it for your lifetime and those of your next couple generations. Durability is its long suit.

The only advantage of the 19 is it's light weight for everyday carry.
That said. I am a sucker for the N frames.

I don't have much of a collection, compared to others, here, but I do have a 4" 19-4 and a 4" 28-2. If forced to pick, I would take the Highway Patrolman. It fits my hand better, and will handle all the full house .357 I can afford.
