No....nothing. Here's what is said in the description: "Does have some scratches, chips and normal handling marks here and there but nothing too major and nothing that should affect performance!!! Not bad at all for 54 year old piece!!!"

I just came across it and was curious.....it's not something I was looking to buy.

Cracks like to get bigger and go places. One of those places it can go in this instance is up through the frame around the barrel. No good. I wouldn't shoot that one until I replaced the barrel.

That crack looks to be under the barrel in the crane slot. Cracks do propagate and eventually that frame will crack all the way through. The frame will be unusable.

As for what causes cracks, the possible reasons could fill a book. I will offer a few: substandard metallurgy, frame stressed by bending or twisting the barrel, fatigue failure, exposure to excessive heat in forging of heat treatment, exposure to corrosive chemicals before frame was forged, machined, heat treated.

Surface Defects

Surface defects occur on the outer layer or surface of a material, often affecting its appearance and functionality. These commonly occur during manufacturing processes, as well as wear and tear and regular use such as scratches and dents. Other defects include:

Scaling: Heat causes the metal surface to react with oxygen, forming an oxide layer.

Blistering: Trapped gas beneath the metal surface causes a bubble or blister to form during cooling or curing.

Mottling: Uneven colouration forms or surface patterns form due to improper cooling, variations in composition, or thermal gradients.

Peeling: Separation of coatings or layers from the base metal.

Here is a short list of a "few" steel defects.

Found this on GB and was wondering what could cause this kind of crack......and would this be unsafe to fire. Any opinions?

Do you have a G/B # on that? I'd like to see if anyone buys it. I looked but couldn't find it. That's a dangerous item ready to do a job on who ever fires it.

The seller is (jum-Pawn-it) and the listing ends in about 4hrs 50min as I type this. You should be able to find the listing with that info. I'm not sure if forum rules allows us to link to an active auction. BTW there have been no bids on it up to now.

FOUND IT!!!!! The item # is 1111137913. The seller has good marks too so I wonder what is going on with this gun. Maybe it's not a crack but some other deformity. I've got no clue myself.

Maybe, but I'm not so trusting of the seller. I've avoided problems in buying several firearms on GB by being as careful as possible ...... & that is definitely a crack IMO and should have been noted in the seller's description.

I wouldn't buy it either. It does look a bit like the Euphrates river to me and we all know what happens to rivers that get stressed. It ain't pretty.
