29–2 …. $5k!!!!!

This was a 6.5 though. The Clint Eastwood length….
I don’t know if that made a difference, but it had everything. It was flawless, but still 5K is insane.
Maybe some shill bidding? Maybe some drunk bidding or maybe just two guys that wanted it really badly and one had deeper pockets.

I have one of those, too. 1973 vintage, 6 1/2" blued with presentation case, papers, and tools. Pretty mint if recall. No shipping box.

I have a flawless 1973 with a fabulous case and papers, and again minus the cardboard box. Maybe get 2K for it?
Honestly wouldn't surprise me, my last 29-2 in 6.5" I sold last year locally to a guy who "had to have the 'Dirty Harry' gun" and dragged himself out of bed with the flu to meet me wearing a mask and visibly gulping Dayquil. Didn't bat an eye at the ask of $1750, and mine was only about a 90% example w/o accessories or original stocks, though I threw in a spare set of loading dies I had for .44 - I'd expected quite a bit of haggling, but he seemed thrilled. Think I'd had it posted for all of three hours by the time money changed hands.

Sometimes pricing optimistically works when it's one someone absolutely 'must' have - given the quality of the one ref'd in the OP, I imagine this was probably a case of two well-heeled individuals both "needing" it. Just my guess.

My previous (and rather humble) example before I found some correct stocks for it:

I think any of them that function correctly, regardless of wear or a few scratches are going to have character.
I’d rather have an old beater from the pinned and recessed error than any of the new stuff.

Thats crazy. I paid a little more than half that for a boxed 5 screw pre 29 a few weeks ago.

It's nice, but not $5000 worth of nice. Either there were bidders with lots of money and no knowledge or it was a shill.
