29-2 Dull Nickel Finish? Value/Questions

Man that's a lot of extra work I see. Sure this isn't just a mismarked P&R 629 no dash??? Put a magnet on it and we'll all know for sure...

Magnet sticks like glue to my P&R 629.

The idea that you can check to see if steel is stainless is False!

Matensitic stainless steels usually those in the 400 series will attract a magnet just about like plain carbon steel. Try it on something like a 440C knife blade or a S&W stainless revolver which I suspect is something very close to 416 stainless.

The more common 300 series stainless used often used in piping and structural applications are not attracted to a magnet with any force.

Once again Cunningham's Law holds true: "The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it's to post the wrong answer." Thanks for correcting me guys...

But...we still don't know about the mystery .44 Magnum?

I prefer either Hogue or Pachmayr rubber grips to any wood grips for shooting purposes. Pachs are a little more hand-filling for those with larger hands. Not only are they more comfortable (to me), they are also very inexpensive and you needn't have any worries about damaging them. Many here like to run them down, but I could never understand why. As far as I am concerned, S&W target grips are good only for show. I have a big box full of them, against the day I sell a gun.

Agree with all saying that's not nickle.. no way in hell is it.

Nickle 29-2 for additional comparison.

Thanks everyone! Didn't have a lot of time this weekend but I did manage to unload the cylinder a few times. Will definitely be a fun gun. I showed it to my father this weekend and he has a quite a bit more experience with revolvers and S&W and he filled me in that the gun also has a target trigger installed. Seems half the enjoyment of this particular gun will be figuring out the backstory that goes along with it.

Well,

Figured it would be cool to give an update on the gun. Through searching around and curiosity in the gun I came across a company called Patriot Gun Polishing out of Fort Myers Florida who specialize in mirror polishing firearms. I began following their projects on social media and they recently ran a contest for a free polishing service on a selected firearm. I entered the 29-2 and WON! Which means the gun will be getting a full refinish service done. I shipped it out late last week to begin the process. I plan to make a progress thread on here to document the updates but I am looking forward to the transformation. The company is a small veteran owned shop with quite a few years of experience and many great reviews.

Plus, I also purchased a nice new set of grips to compliment the refinish. So this old wheel gun should look great after it is worked over a bit. I will update as I hear of progress. I'm not typically a fan of reworking firearms but with this gun already not being original this can really only help with its current appearance.
