Trying to get a rough estimate of what one is worth. 4" with target trigger and hammer but aftermarket Hogue grips (no cokes unfortunately). Also I do not believe it has the box or papers with it. Most of the pricing I've seen on here is for ones in original condition (with the correct grips and/or box and papers). Any help is appreciated! I thought it was a good deal until I realized that cokes originally came on the 29-2 and those are $400 alone so without them I'm curious to see how much the value drops. Sorry for any typos... posted from my Droid X2

It depends. I just paid $990 for a 4" nickle 29-2 with non matching case and holster in excellent condition. Sounds like alot until you start pricing things, and then try to find one in excellent to unfired condition. The new "classics" are running around $960, and IMO, are not anywhere near the quality of a pinned and recessed M29-2, so I don't feel that I got ripped off.

What I've found is that average condition without papers/case/box will run in the $600-700 range. Very good to excellent $700-1000, and unfired or ANIB in the mahogany case will run well north of $1200. Others with greater expertise and better trading skills have probably gotten great deals for less, but the above price structure has been my experience. Good luck.

If it ain't all scuffed up,I would expect it to be around $700. FWIW,29-2's did not come with cokes. You can find a decent set of targets for much less than $400.

Value is somewhat dependent on how old the 29-2 is. The 29-2 was introduced in late 1962 and made for approximately twenty years. The ones shipped from 62-65 had coke bottle stocks and diamond target stocks from 66-68. From 1969 on, the stocks were non-diamond targets. Model 29-2s with a S-prefix serial number are worth more than those made later and whose serial number begins with an N.

More information would help determine the value of the 29-2 you have.

If your looking for a nice N serial shooter around $700, if your loking for an S serial 3 screw or a 4 or 5 screw Coke grip collector open that wallet wider as they are more like $1500 .

There are some that can be had lower and some in between or above,
It all kinda depends on what you want and that is up to you.

Any way you go dont forget we like pictures,
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not sure of the serial prefix. Here is the picture from the sale ad

Been looking on the classifieds for N frame targets and those are still looking like they are going for around $100. Is this thing still worth $700 if its gonna take another $300 to get all of the correct accessories for it? I don't see the whole set being worth $1000 in the end :-/

Other than the grips, what other "correct" accessories do you need? The original box is gone, along with its contents, so it's pointless to spend money on things that don't match. If it were me, I'd buy the gun at the lowest price accepted and get Kurac or some other custom grips on it. It's a shooter, not a collectible, so enjoy it for that purpose. Besides, you might find some of the original target grips for next to nothing if you look long enough, and in the mean time, would have the pleasure of owning and shooting a fine handgun. JMO.

Very true those parts are gone. The grips are my biggest concern being that they are around $100. Its a shooter, yes, but I would still like it to at least look like its original. I'm going to try to get it for a little less because of the grips

Model 29's of any vintage are fun to shoot but a 4" barrel model will give you a bit of muzzle blast. I have a few of them and the 4" barrel Model 29's are about as short as I care to shoot.

Here is a quick pic (the only pic I have!) of a 1976-shipped nickeled Model 29-2 I own. I bought this long enough ago that the price was well under $400.00 and looks to be a nice investment!

I would probably pass on the one you are looking at but, I know they just don't "grow on trees" around here. The grips on the gun are supposedly original.

With a little mag polish and a correct pair of N-Frame Targets that gun would bring about $700 retail around here. Asking prices would be higher, but when money actually changed hands I bet this number would be accurate.

If I were buying it as shown, I'd be hard pressed to pay more than $500, and then only if a detailed examination did not reveal any other 'gotchas'.

One thing to remember about nickel guns and rubber stocks. Peel them off if you get serious about the buy. Examine closely the metal under the stocks. Soft rubber will trap grit, sand, residue and hold it against the metal. Under recoil, this trash gets ground into the metal, deeply scarring the nickel finish.

Good Luck,

Drew
