Anyone know how many of the 29-2 S serial number guns were made in nickel? I've looked through S&W std catalog and the 2003 SWCA vol. 37 written by Doc44 and can't seem to find the answer. I've seen a ton of the blued guns but rarely see one in nickel, curious to see if these are rare or not. Thx!

I owned a 4" nickel S series 29-2 for a brief period but sold it to upgrade to a very nice 4" blued early N series, and never looked back. It was something of an oddity to me, but I really have no idea of the total production, but I dare say they are not "rare"?

I don't think anyone knows the actual answer to your question. The 29-2 with an S prefix serial number was made for approximately seven years (1962-1969) with 50-60 thousand produced, and if approximately fifteen percent of those were finished in nickel, the number would be 8-10 thousand range. But, this is just a wild guess.

Thank Bill, that's close enough and pretty well answers my Q... I appreciate it!
