New to forum but not to S&W wheel guns. I just purchased two S&W .44's. One is a 4" 629. The other is a model 29-2 but it is a 3" barrel. All research shows that Smith did not make a 3" in the 29-2. I believe that it must be a custom gun because the lettering on the barrel is not like the normal lettering. Any info on the gun would be greatly appreciated. S/N- N626XXXX

Yeah, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that S&W didn't produce any 3 inch, roundbutt 29-2s. This one is almost certainly a gun that's been chopped up.

Thanks. I agree. I bought it along with a 4" 629. When I saw this one, I knew that it was coming home with me.

I saw one like that many years ago at a local range. The owner ever let me fire a few rounds. It was the first 44 magnum I'd ever seen, much less fired. I was scared to death of it. Turned out to be a nice shooter. I never saw him or it again.
