I found this gun online, the pics arent great, so I have requested better ones.
First of all, do these appear to be coke grips? What are the grips worth if they are?
Secondly the trigger and hammer are shiney, so Im thinking a renickel.
Thirdly the rear sight looks like it sits too far back.
What do you see? What are your opinions? What would be the value as it sits with original finish and then with renickel?

Thanks for your opinions.

Can't tell much from those pics and the info you provide. Did he give you a s/n? You need a lot more and better info. If that was an early to mid 60s gun in prissy condition it could easily be worth maybe ... $1500, or more.

the gun is refinished, they plated the hammer, trigger, and front and rear sights which wouldn't have been done at the factory. I would think the gun alone would be worth ~$400 as a shooter. The cokes, if no chips or cracks are in the $400+ range.

First, the stocks are of the coke bottle type. They are not mint, but probably worth $300 plus and could be restored by several forum members. Second, the 29-2 has been refinished in nickel and since the hammer and trigger are also finished in nickel, I am sure S&W did not do the work. The rear sight leaf does look incorrect (too far back), but I am not what would cause this.

Value to me, would be around $750 (assuming the revolver functioned normally).

If the rear sight has been replaced with a later style the screw holes will not line up correctly. If someone just installed the incorrect one it could cause the rear overhang we are seeing.

I just got a couple of more pictures. The grips are not near mint, but appear to be in good shape, doesnt look liked they are cracked, just minor shallow dings and scrapes. great restoration candidates.
The gun however is all wrong as we have already found out with the first pics. Complete replate including rear sight, trigger and hammer.
He says it dates to 1964.
Im going to pass as his asking price is WAY TOO HIGH. $1200.
Im wasnt really interested in the gun, but if it would have been in great shape along with the grips, I may have taken a shot. I dont have any guns of that vintage for the cokes to be correct on. He knows they are cokes, so Im not likely to get a deal on just then grips. ohhh well.
Thanks for the opinions and responses.

$1200 would be too much by double for a refinished gun with a rear sight problem, even with decent, but not perfect, Cokes. I might be interested at $500-$600.

There was a great deal of discussion about this revolver on another forum. And to be fair to the seller, he disclosed that the revolver had been refinished, the seller even posted before and after pictures.

The seller never hid or lied about anything to do with the gun. In the ad I found, there was no mention of a replate or refinish. He did not advertise it as original either. It was a pretty vague description when it came to condition. I hope it did not come across that he was being shady.

Can you PM me a link to the conversation on the other forum?

I'd walk away too.

Cokes can be found on their own, and in better condition.

As a shooter, it would be fine, but he's way off on the price.
