I recently purchased a model 29-3, 8 3/8 nickel in the wood display case with all the extras. My question is how common is it for this model to have a recessed cylinder? I was a little confused because I thought -3 guns were not pinned and had non-recessed cylinders. Any thoughts? Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if this adds any extra value to the gun?

Generally the value of a transition gun is no different than the "normal" guns. I guess if you have a buyer that collects transition guns then they might pay more.

May I ask how much you payed for your 29-3. I saw one yesterday in a LGS in Corpus Christi. 6 1/2 INCH nickel. They wanted 1150 for it. Didn't look to see if it was recessed. Was in kind of a hurry so really didn't even handle it. I know missed opportunity.

May also have been sent back to S&W for repair and they replaced the cylinder with what they had. A friend of mine picked up a 58 that was badly in need of a retime. He sent it to S&W and they retimed it with a new cylinder and ratchet, because they didn't have any of the old ones left. It now no longer has recessed cylinder chambers with the new ratchet and cylinder.
