Just ran across a Model 29-3 in my local shop. It has the 2 1/2" barrel and round butt with a nice set of Combats on it. The tag said it was a Lew Horton model, but I didn't notice any markings on the gun itself about this. Are the LH models marked in any specific way? The gun showed a little wear, but function and lock-up were nice. I really went in hoping to come across a 625 as I was planning on it being my next purchase, but this one sure felt good. What would be the going rate on one of these if it is in fact the Lew Horton model?

LH guns are not marked other than a box code - They are sought after guns and I would think up to around $600 would be a good buy for a keeper.

In 1998 I ran across a 657 at a gun show that was marked Lew Horton.Asking price then was 385.00.I didn't really know what the deal was on "Lew Horton" but I really liked that 3"gun but I passed.The following year at the same gun show that same 3"657 Lew Horton was there only at a different dealer's table.I always wanted a .41 mag so I said to myself this has gotta be fate.Asking price was now 435.00.I knew the dealer and asked if he would take a28-2 on trade,he said yes.I got that 657 for the 28 and 200.00,called S&W and they verified that it was in fact a Lew Horton revolver.Several months ago the good people on this forum told me it was 1 of about 5900 guns.Now I really miss that 28 but there are a lot of them out there so I think I will be able to again own 1.But as far as that 657 3"no dash goes I think I would probably never again have a chance at something that uncommon.I guess I'm trying to say "If you have the money and it is a reasonable price buy that thing."

Thanks guys. No box with this one, so I guess the only way to know is to call S&W or Lew Horton. I've got to mill this one over a bit. I'm in the unfortunate position of knowing exactly where two revolvers I want are waiting patiently to be bought, but I can only swing one of them right now.

Anybody know how many of these were made? I was trying to do a little research, and it seems like they may have been done more than once for LH. I'm wondering if there was a run of -3's and then later on another run with a different dash number. I've found pictures of some with half lug barrels, and some with full lug barrels. Also, some seem to have fluted cylinders, and others non-fluted.

You are probably going to need the serial# and even then from what I have learned here on the forum it is not an exact science.
