Just acquired 29-4 Full Lug 5" Unfluted, Square Butt
I know the grips are not correct for this gun, also no screw (Hogue came with)
May replace the grips, or try and locate a screw and leave on. Anyone have one? Suggestions welcome on grips
Serial number starts with BDY
SCSW 4th states product code 101249, but I don't have the box
Is this one of the 500 distributed to Hill Country in 1989?
Have not been able to find any sold recently. More desirable?

tagged for interest. if you find out what original grips were.... let us know.

I had one made not knowing there was an SW offering.

mine is a 29-4 #BEDxxxx that originally came with a 8 3/8" barrel.

I am looking for a set of woods too. I have some Ahrends that look 100% better than rubbers.

The Hill Country 29-4 came with the rubber Hogue grips (not sure if they had a SW log or not), like lawandorders
I was trying to verify if this was indeed one of the Hill Country guns.

Hill Country

I believe this would be one of the 5" 500 from Hill Country.

They did ship with the Hogue's.

I have a 8 3/8" with serial starting with BDY which shipped in Oct. 1989.

My 5" shipped in April of 1989 with serial of BDS

The 3" shipped July 1989 with serial BDZ

Can I ask what your 5" cost?

I'd put the Houge's back on it if you want to do some range time.

If you're ever in Austin, swing by McBride's Guns and ask for Lee. He worked at Hill Country Dist. for many years, and can probably tell you more about them; I'd bet McBride's was also their largest account.

great price

Paid $800
Hard to find comparable sales. Good price I hope. Didn't think I'd come across another one any time soon.

I believe the $800 was a great price and those that have them rarely sell them.

I've only seen one and didn't realize what it was until I did a little research.

Seems to fit the description on pg 236 of SCSW 4th. All the other 5" unfluted are round N frame that I could find. This one is square. Have a set (of what I believe came with the gun) grips coming in from RogerA. What a great guy to deal with!!

First off , congratulations. You have yourself a very fine piece of hardware.
Secondly, I think $800 is an excellent price to pay for that particular gun.

Grip problems solved. Obtained the hogue grips that I believe came with the gun, also picked up a set of Target Goncalo Alves. Hogues for the range, GA for storage and adoration. Happy now.

Wow this thread is timely, having never seen one available I just picked this up last week off a very popular firearms auction site, it went totally unnoticed and I couldn't be happier! Picked up a set of NOS correct Hogue grips for it as well.

I've been asked what I paid, $1400.
I know that is near the higher end of the scale, but considering the scarcity and near unfired condition I feel it was a fair price.
Thank you for your comments!
