OK there were 500 of these produced in 1989 and distributed through Hill Country.

29-4 Full Lug 5" barrel Unfluted Cylinder shipped with Hogue grips.

I purchased mine in 2012 at a local gun show with original box etc. for $725 OTD:eek:

I changed out the stocks a few years ago but still have the originals.

Didn't realize how rare it was until I fired a few rounds of .44 special and then had my son try and find a holster for it.

Guy at the local gun store told my son I might want to put it away and find another .44 mag to hunt with.

Cleaned it up and haven't shot it since but I have purchased a few other .44 mags :D:D

So who has the other 499 of these?

Wow, that's nice! Forgive the expression, but it looks like a GP100 and a 29 had one too many..I love the looks & feel of both revolvers, Smith and Ruger, they're both bad***! If anyone near PGH has one of these could I at least look at it?

No -4 but #355 of 500 29-5. Tough to find a holster for it also. Joe

29-4 5" ?

I don't have exactly the same gun as yours, but I do have a a 29-4 3", which also came with rubber Hogues, with S&W emblem, I wonder if these also came from, or through same distributor, Hill Country?
I do also have the 29-5 Classic in 5" , I do like the changeable front sights on my 29-5, but I sure wish it had the 29-4's non-fluted cylinder....
It is still definitely my favorite S&W 44 Magnum to shoot.
I also wish my 29-5 did not have the glaring word "Classic" painted on the barrel, not really painted, but sort of looks like office white-out, cheapens the gun to my mind, reminds me of the gold inlay people put on revolvers in the 70's.
They really got away from blued revolvers as the 90's went on, everything had to be stainless.
Which to me is sad.

Drawn to the unfluted cylinder and 5" barrel, I bought a new one during the short time they were in production. Sold it somewhere along the way...

old thread, doing a little research on a rainy day.
I have one of the 29-4 Hill Country 5" BDY prefix
