Just picked up a 1959 29 no dash 4". The barrel looks to be re-blued any input is appreciated. Paid $600.00 and came with 8 full boxes of 44 spl.

You stole that gun.

What makes you think the barrel is reblued? It looks like its a slightly different picture then the frame in the pictures, but its hard to tell anything more.

Both the cylinder and barrel have a plum color to them? The photographs make the gun look better than it is. All matching numbers but no number on the grips. Are they correct for the gun? Thanks in advance for any input.

It is common for the barrel and cylinder to have a slightly different hue to them. I think its unaltered. $600 is a steal, the cokes and ammo are worth that.

Upon closer inspection i believe the gun has been reblued. I got a chance to shoot her this morning with .44 special loads, what a great shooter. Quite a few years ago i let a 29-2 go, a friend talked me out of it, i think this will be a great replacement. Were grips numbered to a gun of this vintage?

The red ramp looks a little "different" and may have been replaced, indicating a refinish (or a photo artifact). Target stocks are not numbered to the revolver.

From what I can see from the pictures, if it is a reblue, it is very well done. There does not appear to be a softening of the metal, the sideplate fit still looks good, cannot discern any rollover on the edge. Have you checked for a date stamp on the frame? Smith also put reblue stamps on guns in the past, wonder if it has one? How about some good pictures of the left side of the grip frame with out the stocks?

By the way, reblue or not, you hot a great deal on that 29!
