Well...I just picked up another addition for my 2nd/3rd gen family. It's a well-used 469 and it arrived at my LGS today. I went down there to grab the receipt and take a look at it. She's been used for sure and probably sat around for quite a few years. After a thorough cleaning, I think I might try and touch up a few spots of faded bluing, mainly around the magwell.

Just wondering what products people have used--I'm mainly interested in cold bluing. Let's hear some suggestions!

The 469 has an aluminum alloy frame, which is anodized. Try Birchwood Casey Aluma-black on the frame blemishes, not perfect, but far better than bare aluminum showing.

Good point...totally forgot about the aluminum aspect. Come to think of it, I feel like the slide was in great shape and it was just the frame that needed work.

The Aluma-black blends in nicely on guns with a matte black finish, I've used it on my 432PD and AR-15's for small nicks/scratched. Not too sure if it will look as nice on a gun with a gloss black frame.

I don't have a 469 to compare it to, but if the frame looks anything like my anodized M39-2... I'd be entertaining one of the spray finishes available from Brownell's for aluminum, like Aluma-Hyde or baking Lacquer.

I've used the Dark Parkerizing Gray baking lacquer on a AR-15 barrel that developed large shiny wear areas in the Parkerizing, it works well, but it stinks to high heaven when it bakes... I was sure glad my wife was out for the day when I used the kitchen oven.

With something small you can sneak the toaster oven into the garage.

I've used the Birchwood Casey Aluma-black on an alloy 457 frame and a couple of fine scratches just disappeared. Matched perfectly. De-grease well then apply the Aluma-black on a Q-tip. I don't know if the second gens were the same alloy, but it isn't likely to hurt anything and is worth a try.

Sorry for the hijack, but it looks like you guys know what you're talking about - can anyone guide me toward a touch up product for an early Air Lite frame?

I have one with the frosted aluminum painted finish, has bit of high spot holster wear on the edges.
