Perhaps I've just not looked in the right spot on the forum, but has anyone found a good source for a 'blank' or a 'plug' to put into 2nd Gen Smith pistol slides, to replace the right side ambi safety?

As with a lot of folks, the Philips head screw looks pretty terrible to me, almost like a 'Bubba Repair Job', not a factory feature.
Thanks!

TexasRaider, you are aware that Smith made a non ambi (single sided) safety for the first through third generation pistols, aren't you? I prefer ambi type, and had a couple of slides that I had to convert from single side, and it's easy to do.

Yeah, actually I was doing some more research online and found another forum where they spoke about that. However, it appears on switching between come generations, there might be an issue with the timing between the decock and the sear? I'm not familiar enough with S&W autos to try to gunsmith something like that myself, but if I can find a 2nd Gen single side, I'd be just fine with that.

I believe that the Philips head screw was the type used. Looking at some pictures on Ebay, there is at least one slide with the same screw used. IIRC, those screws working loose and coming off was a fairly common situation. Which is why the 3rd Gen guns used a different design on the ride side lever.

There are also listing for Allen Head replacement screws.

Finally, there are several 2nd Gen slides with both ambi and left side only safeties available.

No links as that violates forum rules.

Different members here have had varying degrees of success putting 3rd gen Left side only safeties in.

Philips head screws were used on some S&W 2nd gen pistols. You can replace the ambidextrous safety with a single-side safety.
