Does anyone know if the magazine for a 3rd Gen 59 series can be used for a 2nd Gen 559?

The S&W website lists the M59,469 and 659 as guns that the magazine will fit, but not the 559.

I'm curious why the 559 isn't listed as it's basically the same frame as a 459/659, but made of carbon steel frame instead of alloy or stainless steel.

Being in the PRK, I have to find a 10rd replacement for a faulty 14rd original.

Yes 3rd Gen 59 mags will work in your 559. All three of the 2nd Gen guns that you listed (459, 559 & 659) will use the same mags. The onlt reason that I can think of that the 559 is not listed is that they were made in much smaller quantities than the other two.
Now I have to ask, what is wrong with your original magazine? Since you live in CA I am assuming you are not allowed to replace your old mag with a new high cap mag, but if the old mag is just not working right can you replace the spring and follower and maybe cure the problem?

Van,

I bought the gun used and I what I'm experiencing is when a round is stripped from the mag by the slide, instead of staying straight and lined up with the chamber opening as it moves forward, it starts to become slightly off angle as it moves forward and out of the feed lips, then the tip of the bullet hits and jams on the side of the chamber opening.

I'm thinking a bent feed lip, but before I go messing with the one and only original mag that the gun has, I wanted to try a new mag and verify the problem goes away with a new mag, and I need an extra mag anyway.

Yep... I'm limited to the 10rd mags for replacements. That requirement here especially gets me mad when it comes to my 4006. They came with 11rd mags, but when it was shipped, the original mags had to stay behind... due to one lousy round over the 10 limit, they are considered evil "high capacity" mags.

Conrad,
I have never experienced a jam like that from any of my S&W auto's (1st, 2nd or 3rd gen) and with out seeing it I would have to agree with you that the feed lips may be bent. Sorry to hear that you guys in CA are still living under the 10 rd limit. Loosing one round from your 40 isn't so bad but when you figure that the 3rd gen 5900 series mags carry 15 rounds that's one third loss in capacity! I would try a new mag I'm betting that it will cure your problem then if you feel up to it compare the two and see if you can tweak the original mag to work again. At this point you really have nothing to loose.
