2nd time out - lots of FTEs.

I had similar issues when I first shot my 15-22. Each mag seemed like a new problem, regardless of the ammo type. I clean the gun well after each use. Now after 1500-2000 rounds I rarely have a FTE or FTF. Matter of fact, the last time out shooting 500 rounds, not a single FTE. I have cut back my cleaning to every other time out and have had no issues lately.

It should not take 1,000 rounds for your rifle to begin to work !

Mine worked out of the box. First to run through was a brick of CCI HV. One Failure to Feed when I supported the rifle with my hand on the bottom of the magazine, I knew better but did it anyway. It just works.

I have polished the bolt rails and keep bolt face clean and barrel extension clean. That's about it.

Bolt face is clean. It has a total of 600 rounds through it. It has happened with 7 different types of ammo. cci mini mags, Aguila, Federal Auto match and bulk, Remington GBs and thunderbolts and Winchester.

Oh and the kicker- I didn't get an email returned until 6 days later. I was on vacation, no biggie. I call up and they say " sorry we are not sending out any shipping labels. We are shutting down the plant until mid August. Call us back then." So much for that great S&W customer service.

S&W closes at this time each year for vacation and maintenance, they have done this for at least 40 years that I can remember. I have two 15-22 and neither has had feed or eject problems just a few FTF with 30 year old ammo. You need to contact them again and have adjustments made.

As someone else suggested ... photos of the bolt and the interior of the ejection port. I'm having a problem getting a handle on the fact that every ammo you try does the same thing.

Gee, don't you or the folks where you work ever take a vacation?

I guess I didn't expect a company that did $588 million is sales last fiscal year to shut down completely for a month. I run a business and employees take vacations. We don't shut down.

I'm sure they will make it right after they get back.

To be clear is this a failure to extract or a failure to eject, they are not the same thing. Is the fired case left in the chamber or fall into the receiver and not clear the port?

Can you post pictures of the a fired case? There's only a few thing it can likely be. One is a rough chamber and this will tend show in the surface of the extracted case. Another is an out of spec or sticky extractor. Does the extractor move freely in and to grip the case head.

Other things to check for failure to feed/failure to eject are:

Rough bolt rails, especially on the laser cut edge on the inside. May not be obvious since the rail squeezes together very slightly when place in the upper. Remove the recoil spring and test the smoothness of the bolt in the rail, it should be very smooth.

Slightly warped upper allowing the bolt to drag in the bore slowing its move to the rear.

I don't think this question has been asked. If it has, I'm sorry.

Have you removed the flash hider?
