How scarce are Model 36,no dash, 3", square butt, flat latch revolvers? What is the probable date range of manufacture? Should these be 3or 4 screw?
Anybody want to suggest a value estimate for one with original diamond magna grips, good bluing except light surface rust on trigger guard.
thanks

Hope this helps you help us.

Got the partial S/N; 2459xx; I am guessing 1961? Would that period determine 3,4,5 screw? cell phone pics I have are not very good. Grips look good.
Thanks

The 1st 3” slim barrels introduced Dec 1950, on the "Baby Js".

No 5 screw full size Chiefs Models of 1953, (Pre Model 36s) or Model stamped 36s.

The 4 screw sideplate/frame was deleted in 1956. Any Chief stamped Model 36 or later is going to be a 3 screw with the very rare possibility of an older 4 screw frame in inventory, assembled in late 1957 or early 1958, after the mid 1957 change order to stamp all guns with the model #s.

2nd and 3rd style Flat latch was used from 1953 until 1966.
Most 3" guns were sq butt.
The closer to 1960 Chiefs get, the more prevalent is the 3" barrel.
That serial # is more likely May-April 1962

$500 would be a ball park w/o seeing it.
