3" 686 value

Well I finaly went and done it !!!! Ive been a Smithnut for longer than I want to remember but today,I just couldnt help myself. I have owned about one of everything that thay have ever built, with the exception of a 686. Today is the day I bought my first L frame.I paid 454.75 I have no idea of the value of these guns. will sombody out there please tell me how I did?? Thanx guys in advance.

Hi, a 6- or 7-shot, and which dash number? Is is stamped CS-1 or CS-3 on the frame with the cylinder out? Photos would be even better

thanks for the reply,Murph. looks like a run of the mill 686 to me, its not a CS. Its a 6 shot

You got a good deal, whatever the model or dash number. An earlier (-4 or before) version would be a little more valuable to most people, but if you look at the retail price for a new 686 you did good at $455. Enjoy!

686/Always a Good choice

I own 2 L-frames, 581 and a 686. They are great revolvers, shoot like a dream. I reload 357 and they handle any reasonable load listed and I see folks reloading and shooting far heavier than I would. I am not a "max" load guy. I intend for my guns to be in my estate, in good shape.
The L-frame is one of the classics for service, it will be around long after we are gone.

Kudos on a fine purchase...I recall taking mine to the CC firing for qualification. The "fire-ball" got everyone's attention...No doubt that S&W hit a winner in this L-frame...

Thanks guys,for the quick response. Looking forward to a little range time with the new toy. Ive always been an N frame guy so this will be a new experience for an old man !!! Ah, so many guns and so little time.
