I have a 3" model 60 and am thinking about putting 3 dot sights on it. Are there any drawbacks of doing this or anything I should be aware of before I do?

Also if any has done this already what sights did you use?

I have a set of tritium 3 dot sights for my Sig 228. I like the dot front sight (The most important one), but I took the rear off and replaced it with a regular black rear sight. Put a dab of white out up front, then front and rear and you will have a cheap idea if you will like them or not.

I've never seen three-dot aftermarket adjustable sights for S&W revolvers. It wouldn't be hard though. All you'd need is the rear blade and the front blade, and those parts are cheap.

S&W did make a small number of fixed sighted Model 10's with a never seen before, or since, three-dot sight system. Product code 100142, shipped in 1997.

On further reflection, S&W has made J-frames with Hi-Vis sights that are three-dot. If your into that. Light pipes, or whatever. Maybe those blades could be retrofitted to an older style adjustable sighted J-frame.

LPA makes these for S&W, have all three versions, they did help my consistency.

Not for J-frames.

Funny,

I have a 642 Talo J-frame which I've been debating putting tritium night sights on. With the non-pinned (permanent) front sight I need a gunsmith for the job to remove it and fit a tritium site. Trijicon recommends using these folks ToolTech and so far for what I've read they are getting good reviews. In my case it's $110 for a front sight and $270 if I go for a three dot setup.

If the cheaper side of me wins and I only end up painting the existing front site with phosphorescent glow in the dark paint I'm looking at these Glow-On, SiteGlo - Glow in the Dark Gun Sight Paint and possibly the glow material used in watches watchlume, Powering Your Watches! .

Hope that info helps,

Tom

Have you considered the M640 Pro Series? It has a mini Novak like rear sight and a pinned front. Not sure if they're tritium.

It often makes more sense to sell Gun #1 and buy Gun #2, instead of pouring a lot of money into Gun #1.

I hear what you are saying. In my case to install 3 dot sites involves widening the opening of the ramp to the front sight and installing the rear two dots in the groove which is why it's $270.00 for 3 dots. I'm thinking for my use (EDC and close range shooting) if I go with the tritium sites I'd probably only have the front sight replaced for $110. I also have a local master gun smith I'll check with tomorrow who may be able to do the same installation for less $ and without the need for shipment. I have other guns which are much more suitable for fun at the range and distance shooting. My Smith and Wesson 41 fills that bill. :)

Thanks,

Tom
