I'm looking at a model 24 on a website. It's advertised with a 3" barrel but it has square target grips on it. I know they made those with 4" barrels but I don't think I've ever seen one with a 3" barrel. Did someone measure the barrel incorrectly or did those actually come from S&W with 3" barrels.

I know just about anything is possible but if I buy it I want it to be a factory barrel length.

Thanks

I believe Lew Horton had S&W make a run of them some years ago. I saw one at a gun store and was tempted, but it had the lock and the store owner was too proud of it. It did have a three inch barrel and square butt.

If I remember correctly there were 250 blue and 250 nickel Model 24's and the same number/configuration of Model 29's.

The original owner may also have put a set of round to square conversion stocks on it. Ask the seller whether it's a square or round butt frame.

Can you post a picture? It would be easier to give you a good answer.

24-3 and 624, both in 3”

This is how the Horton 24-3s shipped. I have not seen one in nickel but the same thing is in stainless, the 624, on the right. I think they they are beautiful revolvers. They are well balanced and the combat stocks fit my hands.

I've a 24-3 in blue that has the combat grips and 3" barrel. Wouldn't call it little as it is a N frame. Winchesters 200 grain Silvertip load is pretty accurate in that short barrel. Frank
