Stopped at a LGS today and they had a 30-1 on the shelf. It seems in pretty good shape. Comes in original box (sorry no pic) papers and cleaning roc and brass brush (used).

The box is in fairly decent shape. The stocks look brand new but do number to the gun. Condition isn't perfect but it's not bad. Lock up is tight but it does have some cosmetic issues. Some finish damage on the forward edges of the cylinder between flutes. Some fine scratches forward of the thumb latch. Some raised edges at the side plate seams. A bit of finish damage under the edges of the stocks. The finish on the right side seems a bit fogged. It doesn't seem to have been fired much at all.

Any suggestions on value? I like it but it's not something I have to have.

About 1968 based on interpolating the 4th Edition Standard Catalog SN dates, you'll need a letter to know the exact date of shipment. Looks like its in very good condition. I would expect to find it between $500 and $600 where I shop, probably tagged for more with the box/papers/etc. Good luck.

There is a nice 31-1 at a local shop (sq vs rd butt). Don't know if it has the box. They were asking $750 and it's been there for months. Last time in they offered it at $675. The one you're looking at should be in the $600s these days.

Just did a quick GB search for closed auctions, Two with boxes and stuff in nice shape went over $700 without shipping, taxes and transfers. So good ones are bringing pretty good prices. Others in more pedestrian condition are under $600, FWIW

Still thinking about it. It would be another caliber to deal with. I already have several J frames.

It's in fairly nice shape but it's certainly not pristine. I wonder how the grips are so new. Must have had other grips on it for awhile. I'm guessing it's Very Good, maybe Very Good+. But I may be way off on my condition estimate.

I wonder how it got the wear spots on the front corners of the cylinder while showing such little use otherwise. It does lock up very tight. The little lips/ridges on the side plate fit bothers me a bit. Poor removal practices?

From the responses I'm getting it doesn't sound like a super bargain which is where my cheap tendencies like to be. I've bought from this shop before. They do bargain a little but not to the point of taking super lowball offers.

They were surprisingly well stocked for a little shop, and not just plastic stuff, although they had a good supply of that too. They were a bit thin on S&W revolvers but did have Rugers, Kimbers and Colts.

Thanks for the responses.

I'd say, forget it! If you're lukewarm about the little .32, and you seem to be, maybe it's not for you and you'd enjoy spending the money on something else. I like .32s but I'd also admit they're not everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah, I've moved on. That's why I posted the last pic. I was temped to go and try to negotiate but then I don't really need another caliber to tend with. Other than 22LR I can reload everything I have so I'd need another set of equipment for .32 long. I already have too much stuff to contend with. I guess I'd rather buy another 10, or even the new Henry PCC in 9mm they also had. But then I already have a pretty nice AR style 9mm PCC, well technically it's a pistol. Oh heck, I think I want one of everything.

When my youngest, smallest (5' nothing and <100#) niece completed her safety course, and turned 21, I gave her a Model 30-1 with custom Roy Fishpaw grips. Ten years later she's preparing for her grandpa's Model 39-2. The point is, that little Mod 30 served her well for a long time.
