I am not a regular viewer of the "30 Days" program. It broadcasts on the FX Network, I'm not sure of when or how often. Anyhow, I just happened to check the FX web site today and found an episode of the show titled "Gun Nation".

For those of you not familiar with the premise of the show, it basically is about this guy who puts himself into other peoples views or life experiences for 30 days. The idea for the show started by this guy documenting himself living on a strict "McDonalds" menu only diet for 30 days and keeping health vitals and recording what he ate. Thus, this show is somewhat of a spin off. At any rate, the episode I am submitting for your perusal involves a staunch anti-gun person that agrees to move into a home with staunch pro-gun supporters. I have to say, given her viewpoint, I have to give her credit. She took the task to hand enthusiastically and gave it her best shot. (No pun intended).

I won't spoil the episode, but I found the facts pointed out in the show about guns and gun ownership to be pretty well accurate. Admittedly the female in the show referred to EBR's as "machine guns". I have to say I was refreshed to find a show that approached the subject at hand with an objective view and not an obviously slanted one.

I ramble, here is a link to the episode. You may have to install a movie viewer that is sponsored by FX but I didn't find it to be a big deal. The episode lasts about 42 minutes, and has several Outback Steakhouse promos thrown in. Sit back and watch if you are interested.

I'm sure some may not agree with me on all points I mentioned, and that's fine. I'm not posting this to debate the issue, just merely pass on what I have seen. The episode isn't perfect, but I felt it was mostly fair, more or less.

I notice that their site also lists three animal rights videos. How likely is this show to be fair to gun ownership?

And they say that it's Mature, so want me to list my birthday. That is valuable material that spyware seeks.

I think I'll pass on this one but thanks for the info.

This is a remarkably balanced view. The "anti" is a lovely aerobics instructor and the pro gun guy is a bit back wards, despite this set up it comes out that she is dramatically swayed to being much more comfortable and he pretty much remains unchanged and seen a essentially right.

Compared to what 60 Minutes or nearly any other media source would have done with this I think 30 Days was very well done. Perhaps my standards are so lowered by the constant din of the media, but I give the show very high marks for presenting a balanced and insightful view of the issues and the psychology of those involved.

Wouldn't mind seeing it but I'm not downloading anything so I guess that's a no go.

It was a well presented program and had a positive slat for our side. I am amazed at the level of difficulty involved in trying to make an anti gun person see the value of self defense. I personally went through this same issue with my daughter who is a nurse. She is dedicated to saving lives and couldn't conceive the concept of taking a life. A doctor she works for is a gun enthusiast and between him and myself she now shoots, very well, and allowed me to teach her children to shoot also.
