Hey hey, I’m Cali

I guess it wouldn't just be for home defense... I'd take it out plinking. I've never shot anything auto before, and I just wanna feel that adrenaline rush.[/QUOTE]

Perfect. Enjoy it and welcome aboard. As you gain experience, you'll probably find the Bodyguard more practical for home defense. Either way, I won't be breaking into your house!

Welcome to you. Very odd combo for a number of reasons which I attribute to inexperience and possibly poor advice, Sorry! I instruct and advise on SD matters and have for years. I would never have suggested either of those two for you. Too much to address at once but IMHO there are much better choices.

Welcome to the forum Cali,

One thing great about guns and ammo, is there are lots of choices.

Everyone can have a different definition of "home protection".

For me a shotgun is not a choice.

The reliability of the 22LR caliber has been well-documented, so that would not be my choice. My favorite handgun is my Keltec P17 22LR. It is really fun at the range, but it has had a few failures to fire and failure to feed issues.

A home invasion at night would be the most disturbing, so my P365 9mm or my Colt 1911 .45 ACP would be my grab.

A property invasion, like what Mark and Patricia McCloskey experienced in June of 2020, would have me grab my Panther.

There's lots of knowledgeable and experienced members here.

Have fun with your new firearms.

Fun/ cool factor is always a valid reason for a firearm purchase! However, as noted above, home/ self defense demands a more practical and reasonable approach. While your choices are certainly better than a sharp stick or harsh words, I would respectfully recommend some research and quality training. Have fun and be safe!

I like the Bodyguard .380, because it's easily concealable and fits in my pocket with just a sheath (not sure what the proper term is) like this, instead of a bulky holster.

Unfortunately, the Bodyguard wasn't very accurate when I shot it, compared to the much bigger revolvers my parents had. But, an intruder at 3 to 6 feet away is a much easier target than a 6 square inch target at 20 feet.

Regardless, I hope just pulling out either gun would scare any bad guys away, and that I'd never have to shoot it at anyone.

It's not that exciting and you waste a lot of ammunition.

Everyone has choices and you have some great comments above.

A wise man once said that small guns are expert's guns. When it comes to recommending firearms for women, unfortunately a common mantra is "shrink it and pink it". By all means, carry your .380... after you have gotten some quality training and practice ;)
