Friday, around noon, my internet went out. I called the local Altafiber store and talked with Nathan (the pleasant and knowledgeable young man who helped me set up my original account). He looked into his magic portal and said signal was not getting to my house. He said he would send out a tech Saturday.

The tech was here early Saturday morning as promised.

The cheerful and equally knowledgeable tech (Zack) said the gear in my home wasn't the problem. He said he would have to climb the utility pole behind our privacy fence.

After 15 minutes he came back and said "unfortunately" and I said "there's a word I've been waiting to hear".
He said he pulled the cover of the junction box and was met with Carpenter Ants who had chewed the plastic box severing connectivity.

He said he had to put in an order for a construction tech to resolve this as there was damage to the pole.

At 0923 this morning I was greeted by Chris.

After about an hour Chris came back and said that besides the ant damage 6 feet of cable was chewed up by squirrels. He said he spends most of his time chasing squirrels.

The moral is: excellent CS is not dead.

I sent an email to Altafiber requesting that they clone these men.

When I was discharged from the hospital after my transplant, I made a point of going to the nurses' station and made a point of telling the nurse lead (first line supervisor) and all those present how well I had been cared for by the nurses who took care of me. Little stuff like that matters to the people who do the work.
