He certianly did his part to help put many of us baby boomers (and our parents) on the correct path in life. He was a man who earned respect on and off the screen.

R.I.P.

I love him on the screen and I thing I would have really liked him off the screen...

May he Rest in Peace.

I look forward to movies featuring him on AMC and Turner Classic. There's a 9 foot statue of him in Orange Couty Airport (renamed John Wayne Airport). I always try to use that airport just to have a glimpse of him and quietly pay my respects.

Is it really 30 years? I was living with my girlfriend in an apartment in Chcago. She was going to law school, and was in in college, too, but I was mostly goofing off. I went down to the corner news paper stand, the kind you see in the old movies with a real guy inside, to get the paper. And there it was, "John Wayne Dies" on the headline. I bought the paper and took the elevator back up to her place. I just sat down and show it to her. I comepletly broke down right in front of her. I very much saw John Wayne as a father figure who I had never met. I know its sounds "corn ball" now-a-days, but back then we had media figures that we could respect and belive in. I still love John Wayne today.

The "Duke of Wayne" was as nice off screen as he was on. I had the opportunity to meet him when he was making the "Green Beret." Part of it was filmed at Camp Pendleton. He was a very nice, down to earth person. What you saw on screen was what you got in real life. His passing was indeed a great loss to us all.
