Hi all,

As I have said before in this forum obtaining handguns in Australia is not difficult...just a REALLY long process.

I got my permits in the mail yesterday for a 29-2 I purchased about 4 months ago as well as a 66-1 I bought about the same time.

I picked up the 66-1 today. It was pretty dirty when I got it...in fact I doubt it had ever been cleaned! I gave it a clean up (no polish) about an hour ago. It is a 6" with serial # 45KXXXX so I guess about 1978 vintage? It has rubber Pachys on it at present but it did come with the original cleaning gear and tools still in unopened plastic. I thought it was pretty good for $300 and well worth the 4 month wait! The Pachs will soon be replaced with factory targets or perhaps some nice Ahrends.

Below is a pic. It is really nice condition and while it is nothing special its a great addition to my collection :)

Cheers

Mike

Nice gun. I just bought my first stainless gun, a model 60. I used Simichrome polish on it and it just gleams now. You said it isn't difficult to obtain just a very long process. Are you allowed to keep in the home, carry concealed, keep gun loaded? Here it varies from state to state. Some make it difficult just to own (D.C.), while others just make it difficult or impossible to carry (Illinois) while others you can carry concealed without a permit (Vermont). Just depends where you live. Understandably you are usually safest in the places that are the least restrictive and folks tend to be more polite there as well.

Its just a bit of a long process. Yo can not carry anywhere unless its a job reqirement (LEOs etc). Some farmers can carry but thats really about it. You can keep them at home. I have 18 hanguns now in safes. I am more of a collector so the carrying thing is not an issue for me. :)

I'll look into the Simichrome polish too :) Thanks for that!

If you want to shine her up you can also use "Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish" and follow it up with "Flitz Rifle/Gun Wax". Glad to see that you folks are still able to own firearms. Wasn't that long ago when there were photos and video of some really nice guns being destroyed there. Is ownership restricted to stuff already there or are you able to purchase new/latest and greatest(not always the case) firearms. Thanks for sharing your 66 with us. They are great guns and I have one with over 20,000 rounds through it! Kyle

Aussie, great purchase! I have a 67 no dash that I polished by hand with Flitz. It now wears Ahrends Grips as you mentioned. I recently purchased a 10-8, that was a V.P.A gun from Australia. Good shooter, and gave it a minor makeover. Left it's ID sticker on it. Enjoy your gun, I have not scored a 65 or 66 yet. (always looking) Bob

They build those 300 miles from me but they are cheaper 3000 miles. Go figure!

I'd love to find an old Australian police Mod 10 0r 66...they all seem to get sent to the US for re-sale.

I'll look into Flitz as well..thansk for that :)

Yeah ..strange hey?

To be honest a 66 in this sort of condition would normally pull $600 -$700 in Australia. I got a good deal form an old retiring gunsmith.

Thanks for the replies Ashlander and 1 old :)
