317 22LR 3" Kit Gun Owners Opinion Sought!

I had a 2" 317 years ago that I didn't shoot very well and some lucky guy got a real deal on it.

I've had two of the 3" guns and sold them (at a loss) for some stupid reason.
Same with the model 63.
Now I have a 63 and a 317 and love them both.
I've promised myself I won't sell these guns again.

The 317 is light, and I can pop 6" balloons from the 25 yard with relative ease.
It's the perfect "carry all day" gun.

How's the DA trigger pull on these 317s? Worse than something like a 63 or 617 or about the same?

Most 22 revolvers need a stiff main spring for reliable ignition. But when I was looking at getting a 317 I saw a few reviews where they didn't list the DA trigger pull as 20+ pounds because their gauges didn't go high enough to measure it. Which I assumed was a big part of their reputation for being inaccurate.

I've had the 317 snub since they were first introduced. I like it being extremely lightweight and the unique hammer.

The only complaint I ever had is the lanyard pin tends to fall out when you remove the grip panels. I'm certain you are going to enjoy your new revolver.

...The only complaint I ever had is the lanyard pin tends to fall out when you remove the grip panels....

Mine 317 did not ship with the pin, and the stocks it shipped with covered that back strap and base anyway. I have replaced the stocks and installed a spare 1911 ejector pin to work as the lanyard pin. And yes, it too will easily fall out when the stocks are removed.

Saturday I had some mone burning a hole in my pocket and decided I need a 317 of my own. My wife has one and she lets me shoot it when she's not enjoying it but I wanted one too. So my dealer had a new in the box one for $90 off so I bought it.

I find no flaws cosmetically or mechanically, it's perfect. At the range Monday I sighted it in at 15 yds with Federal bulk ammo. From a rest it wasn't winning any awards for accuracy but still not bad. I would have stayed a while longer and tested other ammo but the temperature was rising and it was getting too hot to enjoy shooting.

It was a little cooler today so I went back out and tried several other brands and found Armscor to shoot much tighter. Interesting that my wife's 317 likes Federal bulk and mine likes Armscor. Another interesting observation about our guns. Hers is much earlier and appears to have a single piece barrel whereas mine obviously has a SLR ed 2 piece. Interesting!

Well next trip I'm going to try three or four other brands and see how they work.

Another observation, my wife's had a little issue withy sticky extraction but spent cases almost fall out of mine.

Mine is a pre lock version with a blade front sight. I carry it often when hiking with my dogs, never know it is there. The lanyard pin was there from the get go. Here it is with some of its "J" pals. 2nd down middle row.

Like your collection. I'm a big fan of snub nose too.

My wife surprised me tonight. She's an avid shooter but doesn't carry but tonight she said she might start carrying her 317. She's a very good and safe shooter but I told her she should take the carry class and get her permit even though we're a constitution carry state. I said it always to get additional perspectives on shooting as well as gettin information on current laws. I took it thirty odd years ago but said I'd do it again with her. It wouldn't hurt me either plus it would be fun.

I have had the 3 inch adjustable sighted 317 since 2005 and it is my most favorite 22 LR chambered gun . The compact size , 8 shots and Oh So Light weight make it a favorite . On a belt holster you don't know it's thereuntill you need it . My only gripe is the shallow vee rear sight ... I have a hard time hitting with it . I keep saying I will change that shallow vee out for a "U" notch ... I like the front Hi-Viz ... but haven't gotten a round tuitt . Maybe I just need more practice with it but I find the shallow vee sort of indestinct ... no hard and fast notch to settle into .
Other than that ... I love the little bugger and truth be known , 9 times out of 10 , when heading out the door the little kit gun gets slipped into a pocket because it's so compact and light .
Still a fan of the adjustable sights and 3" barrel .
