Serial #79796. I did not have one in my "collection", and have been thinking about adding one for quite a while. I have S&W revolvers in .32 RF, .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R, so I pretty much had to add a .32-20. Found this one (and a .38/200 from the same seller...which I also purchased...details in another thread) in pretty nice condition, entered the minimum bid, $425, and it is coming to my door soon.

There is no address line or S&W insignia on the frame, so I am guessing the gun left the factory sometime between 1917 and 1920 since it has the brass recessed medallions in the stocks. Probably closer to 1917.

Here are a few pics from the auction.

I was looking at these two the other day and contemplating their value. Thank you!

Unless there is something "special" about a particular gun, few of the M&Ps in any configuration are going to fund your retirement. BUT, I also think that any nice looking M&P is worth anywhere from $400 to $500. JMO.

No logo on the frame suggests to me 1919 production.

,,, something “special”. AGE is what’s “special” ,, to me about these Old M&Ps. And this one looks Very Nice. Age/condition =$
BUT, I also think that when shopping (by pictures only) ,, a good honest description is very helpful.
100 years plus,, in THAT condition!
Awesome

auction closing pricing adders

That is a sweet looking 4th change. Mine is a Oct 1921 shipment per Roy, and I am thinking of moving (selling) to a new caretaker. The ammo is expensive as I am not a reloader, but I am curious as to what these guns are going for.

I usually look at GB completed auctions but seeing the final bid is only 1 part...you need to add the buyers premium, shipping, state tax, insurance, and buyers local transfer fees at their FFL.

I am simply curious if the OP doesn't mind sharing was the real cost the $450 (VERY nice deal if that was the final), or do all adders raise it over $500 - $550?

I have some for sale on the Forum which is usually my best outlet for me, and of course I add in what I think will be my Fed-Ex shipping charges with full value insurance, but that estimate is usually negotiable because a lot of prospective buyers want a little wiggle room.

Love to hear pricing comments from others, especially if you have a current 03 FFL (Curios & Relics) and can ship direct to other 03 FFL holders on these 50 year old (1974 at moment) and older guns. I think it helps the Buyer, not so much the Seller.

Charlie, I don't mind at all sharing the total cost of the gun.

$425 hammer price + $35 shipping (USPS Priority Mail) + $31.88 Ks sales tax + $4.25 GB fee = TOTAL $496.13 Then it cost me $3.40 for a postal money order + $10.40 to send documents and MO via priority mail with tracking. I had the total price figured out before I ever entered my bid, so knew exactly what it would cost me to get it in hand.

As stated previously, the gun is not in my possession yet, but based on the pics and emails back and forth, IMO $496 total is still a really good price for this gun.

Here's the link to the closed auction if you wish to peruse the pics.
Just a moment...

I do have a C&R license and a C&R qualified gun is the only ones I get from auction sites...If the seller will accept the license. If not, I move on. There are always more...

Thanks for the reply on total cost

Thanks kscharlie, kinda what I thought and a very good deal even when you figure all costs. I paid around the same for mine and will probably sell in that same range as I am retired for many years now and do not have to fund the retirement.

I too like selling (and buying) with my C&R.... $30 every 3 years is one of the best buys around in firearms. Really comes in handy at estate sales where the auctioneer is a 01 FFL and loves the no hassle of selling to another FFL.

This Forum has been a great place to sell.........the Members let you know very soon after posting your sale price if it is outside of current market by simply seeing days (or weeks) go by with no bids, no PM's with lower offers, etc. If you price it fair within current reason....you get an "I'll take it" fairly rapidly.

Post up some pics of that one when you get it. When I post mine I'm going to include the once fired Starline cases from the HSM cowboy action ammo which I hope will attract more Members that are reloaders.

Congrats on your purchase!

That’s an awfully nice M&P for the price I think. With a little TLC when you get it, it will be even better. 👍👍
