32-20

I saw a box of Remington brass at a local auction. There were 96 pieces of new in the box according to the listing. It sold...seriously for 110 dollars and 10% +4% tax. I couldn't get that far out of any comfort zone. Luckily I do have a few 100 pieces. Oh there was also a box of 32-20 bullets in the auction too...jacketed in a Midway repackaged box. They went for near 60-65 dollars. People are getting desperate..

I had 3 boxes of 32 s&w long on my table at gun show this past week end, never thought about it, but will it shoot in the 32 Winchester? I was trying to sell the ammo for a friend, but still have it. Just wondering.

Yes, it will, but the brass will swell. I don't know if it can be reloaded or not.

I worked two different murders where the shooters used .32-20 revolvers loaded with .32 Long ammo. It worked for them.

Just an observation; Many of these less heavily produced cartridges have traditionally been run only occasionally, mostly as the market supply ran low. This usually worked pretty well until the massive disruption of all kinds of manufacture due to the Wu Flu outbreak. Since everything is in low supply, the highest demand stuff is being cranked out feverishly and the less common stuff is way back in line until supply of the big sellers is satisfied. That's just the way manufacturing works. Unfortunately, as an old guy, I don't have time to wait, so getting any new-to-me calibers is expensive, frustrating, or both. :(

32 S&W Long loads and fires just fine in my Colt Bisley.
It does come out with a swelled case of course.
Resizing eliminates that and reloads again.
But..that resizing of the bulged case does overwork it quite a bit and I only got 2 or 3 reloads per case. Still not too bad.

OTOH, using 32 S&W (short) brass, they fire formed as well to the 32-20 chamber but being short, they only had a flare to the case mouth,,no mid case bulge.

Those shorty case would load and reload 6 to 8 times before cracking at the mouth. Probably could have been more thrifty and annealed them after a few firing and they would have lasted longer.
But they did well.

Not bad on the accuracy either. Just kind of wimpy in the heavy Bisley Model.

I must admit the 32-20 was never a favorite of mine in the SAA's
I'd rather a 38spcl at least (Colt Special of course!). But the 32-20 is a favorite of many.

Was out in the garage yesterday checking the freezer... Looking through some stuff and found the old 4 inch model10 I thought I had lost/sold. Good thing I found it...While rumaging around I found 2 bags of a 100 new 222 cases. Great I thought. In the same box as the 222s I found a bag of 100 32-20 new cases I bought at a gun show last Dec. Wow... I'm up to about 300 now...Also found a full box of 32 Mag ammo and 4 boxes of old red box of 32 cal lead bullets.... And a can of Alcan AL 5 and another of AL 7...

Skeet 028, you sound like "my brother from a different mother." I often explain my experiences similar to this recent one of yours by proclaiming "Organized people never make the exciting discoveries I do!" Welcome to the Happy Surprise Club.

Well GF... We went to the grocery store on Saturday...found 88-12 hamburger cheap! So we got about 12 lbs. Put it in vacuum sealer bags. When I went out to put it in the freezer I did a little straightening up. Been looking in the house for that gun for almost a year...mainly to sell. Thought I had in fact. In 20 minutes I found a whole bunch of good stuff. In the box with the brass I found 2 RCBS items...a new in box PP swage die and a set of RCBS 222 Competition dies...oh and even better 900 Rem STS 209 primers with about 500 Rem 410 STS once fired empties. In S&W theme there was also a box of new Alcan 20 ga empties. Box is marked S&W-Fiocchi...so they date about 1971> Only about 80 in the box

Indeed the .32 S&WL can be fired in a .32-20 Revolver. Long ago an acquaintance of mine (I knew him, but not very well) was accidentally killed with that combination. He and one of his friends were going to butcher a cow, and the friend got the honor of shooting the cow in the head. Instead, he somehow managed to shoot my acquaintance in the head, killing him.

Missed the cow?? Holy Toledo..Did a little more time in the garage today. Found another thousand or so 38s. Drug 3 boxes of old 38 reloads by 2 different suppliers of ammo to police agencies. 2 boxes were full wadcutters and the other was round nose lead. 2, the wadcutters were $2.00 A box marked in grease pencil. Shot some out of the m-10. Also found an all yellow box of Western38s marked Lubaloy. Wasn't full but they do shoot. Took a shot at a PD at about 40 yards....yeah I missed. Saw something odd though.. Better keep quiet about that though. Saw a small rattler out and about darn it....Oh I found a S&W bbl looks to be smooth bore with a kinda choke device on the end. Found a plastic bag of a bunch of S&W parts...small stuff from back when I worked on guns. Looking for my parts box of Rem 1100 stuff .too

Yes gonna sell the M-10...To be honest it shoots ok but it ain't real pretty.

went back to the grudge.. I must say...I am truly ashamed of myself...I've hidden so much stuff from myself it's ridiculous. In powder I found 2 pounds of Unique a pound of Red Dot and a full but opened plastic jug of Accurate #5. bullets...enough 44 cal cast bullets for the rest of my life and a full box of 500 451 200 gr bullets for the 45 auto. I found lots of brass but the one box I found is a Red box with a yellow band around it of 35 Remington brass. It's going to my friend in Md who has picked up a Rem 8 in the caliber and a Rem 14 pump also. All packed away in blue GM Plastic Parts totes under a desk set up for reloading. The CH Mark IV is set up there. One of them was almost full of bullets of all varieties. I couldn't even pick it up. at least a hundredpounds of bullets are going to an auction next week. I found 17 boxes of once fired 7mm Mauser brass. That is going to the auction too.

A little off subject: The other day I open a RCBS die box that is pretty heavy. It is a FL set of 8mm Mauser, and has a 8mm Form & Trim die in it and then the memory floods back in.

I had a friend with both a MG 34 & a MG 42! And he needed lots of 8mm Mauser brass for reloading! So, I ordered the trim die and he got me 2000 cases of once fired 30-06. Just push the shoulder back ant trim to length. No lube necessary. That was such a loooong project! He had a Dillon 1000 that swaged the primer pockets and did everything but blow your nose! I later made another 350 8mm then FL sized that to 7mm Mauser. Using a Forrester Original Trimmer, I trimmed to length and Neck Reamed in one operation. Those cases were for a series of Single Shot rifles in 7x57 that I still have two.

Since Norma discontinued their version of 154 grain Semi-Spitzer at a
"Hot Velocity" (AKA 275 Rigby), I still load a good deal of 7x57.

Not off subject in my opinion. Back in the day we did what was necessary to be able to shoot all sorts of rifles. I made 22Varminter ammo from 30-06...so you had to learn how to do so much more than just reload. Heck I bought a Rock Chuck Bullet Swage press in about 1958. I learned how to make bullets. I couldn't buy jacketed bullets and had a 22 Hornet. I bought it and the dies from old fellow for 15 dollars. I kept the hornet shooting for years with bullets that cost less than a penny apiece.. Still have it too. When I bought a Swift I had to buy jackets for it. Sierras...and the jackets cost almost 2 cents each.long time ago

A couple of weeks ago I was headed to a local gun shop with the intent of purchasing a Browning Model 53 in 32-20. Halfway there I turned around and went back home. I'd still like one, but brass is the big issue.

I feel confident that Starline will eventually make another run of 32-20 brass, but the question is when? On January 3rd of this year I placed a backorder with Starline for 500 32 H&R cases. It appears that they will be delivered tomorrow. I may order some 32-20 cases when they come available simply in the off chance that I might one day own a 32-20 firearm!

You should have bought that Browning...32-20 brass and ammo will surface agan. In my searches yesterday I also came up with a box and a 1/2 loaded 32-20 ammo. Itwas given to me a few years ago by a fellow who loaded the rounds . Data card say 3.3 gr Bullseye with...get this 71 gr Round nose 32 auto jacketed bullets. I remember shooting a few in an old Savage? Super Sporter. Gun was accurate but the ammo was really wimpy...Oh well. I can pull 'em apart and load with better bullets. I also found 48 rounds of 32 Long...factory.I bought a Lee mold(new) another guy got in an auction for 20 bucks...90 gr SWC TL ...I have about 600 Hornady and Sierra 32 cal jacketed bullets. I also dug out a new set of 32-20 Redding dies. I got a set of the RCBS Cowboy 32-20 dies cheap. Sold my Lymans to someone in Dec. Might as well sell the Reddings too. Off to fleabay
