32 ACP in Model 30

I met a guy a couple of weeks ago that said he couldn't find any 32 S&W long. Instead he bought 32 ACP and he said it fired fine in his 32 Cal. model 30, just hard to eject. I told him it did not sound like a good idea.

Anyone ever hear of this?

This very topic was discussed a few weeks ago.

The .32 ACP semi-rim will chamber in a .32 S&W Long, but with excessive headspace. It may or may not reliably fire. The other negative factor is SAAMI chamber pressures for the .32 ACP is considerably greater than for the .32 S&W Long. In other words, it's not something you would do except in the most desparate of circumstances.

Lots of people have done this for a long time. I still think it is a bad idea.

Firing 32 ACP in 32 Long revolvers has been done probably since shortly after 32 ACP was introduced. European revolvers chambered for 32 ACP are uncommon but not rare by any means. The real risk of injury develops when 32 ACP is fired in the old 32 S&W short breaktops.

But you know the old standard warnings about never using ammunition in a firearm it was not designed for.
