I was told at a local gun shop that I could use 32ACP in my S&W 432PD 32 H&R Mag Revolver. Is this safe?

(The reason this came up was that I was looking for FMJ ammo thinking that it would be cleaner to practice with)

My belief is that the 'local gun shop' is full of you know what!!
I think the ACP round is rimless and it would drop down the cylinder as its shorter than the 32 H&R mag and it doesn't have a rim like the H&R.
I think S&B makes a 32 long round that is FMJ.
I'm going to Google the 32 ACP to verify that it has no rim.
I just checked and it is a semi-rimmed cartridge but the bullet dia is .309 where the 32 H&R would typically use a .312 dia bullet so while it might work the accuracy might be suspect!

The 32 acp is not rimless and yes it does work in a revolver, there is mixed feelings on doing this. I shoot them once in a while in my model 31 with no ill effects.

Yes, it will work. Yes, it is safe. .32 ACP is Semi-rimmed, not rimless. The .32 ACP operates at about the same pressure level as the .32 H&R. Depending on firing pin length you may get some mis-fires as the rim is slightly thinner than the rimmed .32 cartridges have.

So far as bullet diameter, it depends. Depending on where the .32 ACP gun or ammunition were made, the groove diameter can vary from .308 to .312 for both. European manufacture tends to the .308-.309, where U.S. manufacture generally runs .311-.312.

With jacketed bullets accuracy does not generally suffer from slightly under-sized bullets, .001-.003, especially in revolvers which generally have slightly smaller bores and deeper grooves than rifles and semi-automatic handguns.

Ive also shot the .32 ACP before in my .32 revolver. Just because i had a few on hand and to see how they'd work. They shot fine and had no problems with ejection.
