As it says, I am asking about firing .32 auto ammo in a 432PD revolver. I think I have read that this can work since the bore size is the same(?) and the .32 auto has a rim. It will chamber and headspace in the chambers of my 432. I am sure this has come up before, so forgive asking it again. As we all know, finding ammo is a problem for most of us and .32 H&R Mag/.32 S&w Long seems to be in the category of unicorns and hen's teeth. I can find .32 auto fairly readily.

Yes it can be done. I've done it. (no one officially condones it). As long as your gun is modern and has no defects, it shouldn't be a problem.

I second the above - I've done it and it works fine. I'm sure the usual "only use the ammo designed for your blah blah blah" applies.

Thanks!

I appreciate your opinions and shared experience. I knew there was a good reason to join this forum! I have found a good amount of .32 auto around here. Its not magnum ammo but its better than nothing...Thanks again...Frizz

My Lyman .32 H&R dies are marked .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long, and .32 ACP, so if the dimensions other than length are any different, its not by much. I've never tried it, mostly due to being a handloader and not having anything chambered for .32 ACP, but I might eventually.

Yes, looking at my Lyman reloading book, it appears that the pressures for the .32 auto are greater than the .32 S&w Short and Long but less that the .32 H&R Mag. The 432 should easily handle the pressures from the .32 auto. I am not sure about the issue of chamber erosion from firing the short cartridge in the longer chambers. I would like it, if it could handle the pressures of the .327 Mag after being bored for that BUT I wouldn't try it. Besides, I can't find any of that either. For factory plinking and last resort SD ammo, the .32 auto will do until sanity returns...if it ever does...Thanks

32acp,,, less SAAMI max pressure than the 32mag (but not by much),,,,more than the 32S&WLong .

32acp will have excessive headspace issue ( .010") in any firearm properly chambered for 32S&W, 32S&WLong, 32S&Wmag

Any other firearm undergoing a headspace check would be quickly benched if found to be that far out of spec. Even a lowly .22rf.

Yes it's done and done alot. If done at all, safer as far as the cylinder containing the pressures are concerned on a 32magnum chambering than a 32S&W or 32S&WLong only revolver.

It's that headspace issue that can really damage or destroy things.
