.32 cal head stamp ID

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was going through a few boxes of misc. rounds given to me by a friend. Seem to be some older .32 S&W remington, peters,
some 32 auto and some 9mm
One round stands out from the rest and appears to be nickle or silver plated bullet, brass case, head stamp is S.A Co. which I found to be Savage Arms Co. The cal. is unknown to me and I cant find any info .32 a.s.p. ??

A.S.P is Automatic (or Autoloading) Savage Pistol. I believe it is the same as a .32 (or 7.65mm) auto.

Like many companies at the time Savage did not want a competor's (Colts) name on their pistol or Ammo. Hence, 32 A.S.P instead of .32 ACP.

Colt and others played the same game with cartridges such as
.38 Colt Special = .38 S&W Special
.32 S&W Long = .32 Colt New Police = .32 Colt Police Positive
30-30 Win. = 30-30 Savage = 30-30 marlin

.32 ASP and .32 ACP are exactly the same cartridge. Just like sceve alluded to, Savage didn't want to be selling Colt marked ammunition.
