Picked up a nice 16-4, now I've got to feed it.
I've got w231 and Unique on hand, need to pick up brass(starline?) and bullets(rainier or berry?). Any sugestions about sources and loads would be appreciated.

Kevin, how does the Smith compare in strength to the earlier Rugers in .32 H&R? The reason I ask is I shoot a Unique load in my Ruger that gives me great accuracy an power. It is 4.0 grains of Unique behind a 100 grain bullet. If the Smith is not as strong please work up to this load.Actually most of my loads in the Ruger use 296 or 2400 for some powerful loads.I have also use 231 for some plinking loads but I have misplaced the data.

Milton,
Thanks for the response. Don't know how the strength of the two makes compare. I'm actually looking for a relatively light load that will direct the bullet into the x ring consistently. A smart/light load.
Seriously, I'm after something fairly accurate for recreational target shooting and fun.
Tks, Kevin

I have used my 16-4 with much milder loads using the old Lyman #3118 cast bullet of 115 grains - this was a bullet which I had from my 32-20 reloading days. With 3.6 gr. Unique or 2.8 gr. Bullseye and Federal primers I get ca. 900 fps. I really use this gun for steel plates and my favorite loads use Trail Boss, American Select or Bullseye at ca 750 to 790 fps. I have found the latter three powders to burn more cleanly than Unique.

I have used 3.5 and 3.8 grains of 231 with a 100 grain RNFP in my 16-4 with good results but have not chronographed them yet. I would like to use the same loads in my newly acquired Ruger Single Six and think I should be OK even though I suspect the Single Six is not as strong as the 16-4.

I have a six cavity Group Buy mould that casts a 100 gr Keith. I use it with .32 S&W Long cases and 2.8 grs of 231 for target loads. These shoot under an inch at 25 yards from my 16-4 (6") and are a real treat to shoot.

They also do a fine job on edible small game. Instant "stops" with little meat loss.

I have a number of .32 H&R Mag revolvers and use this load in all.

If you need a full power magnum load, the 10.0 grs of H110 with the Keith bullet in .32 H&R Mag cases will do the trick. This chronographs at 1100-1200 fps. This is well within the safe pressure level of a Ruger Single Six, an SP101 and a S&W 16-4 (even for extended use) but I will NOT be shooting them in my 631.

Ive loaded Hornadys 85 gn XTP over 11 gn of H110 and get one inch groups at 25 yds on a regular basis, velocity runs around 1300 fps from a 6inch bbl.
