.32 hand eject HELP

Went to buy a friends Grand Pa gun, turns out it has a four digit s/n 57xx. It rode in a holster for 30yrs under a car seat. About 70%. 32 with 3" and original grips. Any help would be great.

What kind of help do you want? From your brief and incomplete description, it sounds like you have a very early 32 Hand Ejector model, probably from the early 1900s. Describe it a little more completely (type of finish, sights, grip material, etc) and perhaps post a picture and it will be possible to give more detailed information. Especially check the serial number on the butt of the gun for complete number and any letters that may be included.

Thanks. It's nickle with 3" bbl (guesstamation) and original hard rubber grips. Fixed sights. Nickle worn 1/4" back on front of cylinder and dark bore. Pics may later.

Does the ejector rod on your revolver hang unsupported under the barrel? Or is there a lug under the barrel with a pin that locks into the front of the ejector rod when the cylinder is closed?

If this is indeed an early I-frame S&W .32, ejector locking lug present means Model of 1903; absent means Model of 1896.

There are a couple of other threads going at the moment about early .32s. I have the funny feeling that at least two of them may be about the same gun.
