You never see any because the folks who have them won't part with them. There were several models, 16-4, 631, 431, 432 and probably a few others. And a few in 327 Mag such as the 632-1. They turn up occasionally but getting hard to find for less than $1200 or so. Here are some of mine.

They made a few. You could get a K frame 16-4 or a J frame 331/332, 431/432 or a 631/632. They also made a few versions chambered in .327 Federal Magnum, which will shoot .32 H&R Mag.

Here’s a 16-4…

Dirty little secret that hardly gets mentioned...

The Model 16-4, cool as a cucumber, was unloved in the retail market. They did not sell for squat and a large load of them ended up being wholesaled for chump change for a stretch after the model had been discontinued.

Like the Model 547 that every buyer seems willing to drop two grand to get, the Model 16-4 languished a couple years after dropped from production and was available as new old stock for a couple three hundred bucks, box-fresh and brand new.

That these classic revolvers are so revered, loved, chased and worshipped is a (relatively) new phenomenon. And please hesitate before you label me as a hater, I am fortunate in that I have two 16-4's, both of the most common 6-inch barrel.

Local shop closed them out at $299.00. Even then they set on the shelf for a while.

If S&W had made them with the non lug barrel in .32 S&W Long they would have sold extremely well. Perhaps one day they will introduce a Classic version of the 16.

And with the bean counters yelling “Once burned twice warned,” and the overall general lack of interest in the current market for any revolvers, the likelihood of a new run seems exceedingly unlikely. Besides, they would have the currently “chic” IL safety and wouldn’t sell worth beans.

It is significant to note that most of the 32 H&R chambered and all of the 327 Fed Mag models were produced in the J frame configuration which is descended from the old I frame (aka the “32 frame”) while the 327 FM would have been perfect in the K frame platform as many rechambered 16-4s and custom guns have shown. I fear we’ll never see this as a factory produced model out of Springfield though. More’s the pity. :(

Now if we could only have somebody make a blockbuster movie where a protagonist like a Dirty Harry or a John Wick totes a “Limited Factory produced” 327 L frame sporting 8 shots and dispatches bad guys neatly at 75 paces, S&W wouldn’t be able to catch up with the demand for at least 5 years!

Seems like we all too often lament what we are all sure they won’t ever make again… while precious few of us have any interest in almost all of what they make currently.

I think Ruger should chamber a Redhawk with a 7.5-inch barrel in .327 Federal. 8-shot cylinder is easily possible as that is what the original .327 Federal Blackhawk had.

My daily carry is a 632. Lots more fun (for me) to practice with than my equivalent-size J frames in 38 Special, although the 100g 32 Mag +P Buffalo Bores kick just as hard as the 158g 38 Special +Ps in same-size guns. I only shoot a few of 'em at any one range session.

As for Ruger 327 Federals, I think my Single Seven is a terrific size and is tolerable to shoot a fair number of the hottest 327 Fed loads through at a session. Not sure I'd want a full Blackhawk-size gun just for one more round. (There is/was a Lipsey's model with a 7.5" barrel, if you really need that length.)

Somebody gave me a “Like” on my previous post to this thread and woke it back up for me. I have related several times that I had and foolishly sold a Buckeye Special Blackhawk in 32 H&R (with aux. cylinder for 32-20) and now have the limited edition stainless 8 shot Blackhawk 327. I have just bought a replacement of the former and it should be in today or tomorrow. I know this is a S&W forum, but maybe I can do a side by side with these two and see whether that extra couple of rounds, the hotter chambering, etc seems better or worse to me at the range.

Friend Sevens, I think you may have turned your statement inside out. Rather than “... precious few of us have any interest iin all they make currently” it could just as well be stated “They are making precious few things currently that any of us have any interest in!” The smaller share of revolvers and the larger number of plastic autos may make sense to millennial bean counters, but not to a large segment of this forum’s population.

Rant over. As with all things, YMMV!

I'm inclined to agree more with Sevens statement, as I've seen it over and over through the years. Three examples over the years that come readily to mind; when I bought a 547, no one seemed to want a 9mm revolver. I paid less for a new Heritage model 15 than a good used model 15 was selling for at the time, and lastly a model 58 .41 magnum for less than a model 10.

We often don't seem to know what we've got until it's gone. :)

I bought my daughter a S&W 331TI years ago. I wish I had bought two. She couldn’t hit with it at first, so I put the pink Hogues on it. She shoots much better now.

You guys are killing me with those model 16 pics :)

I have been searching, but the few that seem to be on-display at the auction sites are asking (not necessarily getting) close to $3k!

I did see a nice 16 recently for $1600 and thought ...what a deal!

Finally decided on a compromise and found a nice .32 H&R 'made in Brasil' brand. It's actually a great shooter and will suffice until a reasonable 16 is found.

Hope the pics keep coming. It's such a fun round to shoot.
