340 M&P: pics added

Colt Single Action Army?
Colt Detective Special?
Colt Police Positive?
Colt Officer's Model?

Springfield "Operator"?
Springfield "Scout" rifle?

The list goes on and on......

Can't really choose our weapon based on a name, can we?

What about the Colt "snakes"? Cobra, Python, Diamondback, Viper, Anaconda Did I leave any out? :)

Out of curiosity - knowing that at least some of you guys are cast bullet aficionados, I was wondering how these scandium frame, steel cylinder, two piece barrel j frames do w/ CB's?

I'm strongly considering an M&P 340 (over a 442 or 340PD) - for discreet carry. I load 158LSWC-BB's over TiteGroup (exclusively), for training / target work. I run this load combination, with my 3", 65-3, & 4", 686 no dash - without problems.

Any issues w/ cylinder or bore lead fouling? Cylinder throat ID's uniform? Any problems w/ basic lead residue cleanup?

I was thinking about posting this in the re-loading forum, but if no one minds terribly, I figured I'd just throw it out there - here...

Oh yeah, for my purposes, the XS FS & the steel cylinder of the M&P, are big positives - over the 340PD.

Thanks in advance!

Why not make such a great gun without the MP crest ?

What is calling/labeling it a "military/police gun" purpose ?

Because its probably not an issue for most. But they did something similar in the past. The 3913NL is a Lady Smith without the "Lady Smith" label laser etched on the slide.

Marketing. But, if you think about the number of LEOs that use a lightweight J-frame as a back-up, Police may have been the target market for the M&P340.

Please....enough already!
What guns do you currently own, if I may ask?
Most guns have a "name" attached to their model "number", so can we please move on to more intelligent conversation?

True. A lot of S&W do/did as well.

Chief's Special, Highway Patrolman, Body Guard, Combat Magnum, Distinguished Combat Magnum, and Combat Masterpiece. Those were just off the top of my head.

Marketing is spot on. But I suspect its marketing to civilians.

I carry a pre-lock 342ti.

I don't think discussing SW making the .357 scandium frame / stainless cylinder J-frame with that awesome XS front sight without police and military markings somehow lacks intelligence ?

SIG makes/made a P229 with a Trident. I wouldn't own that either.

Nope it's actually a 226.

I'm a Cherokee so I can drive a Jeep, but I don't. I ride a motorcycle even though I'm neither related to Harley or Davidson.

I shoot a 929, but my name isn't Jerry. Jerry doesn't shoot a 929 and his name is on the gun...go figure...

I only have one newer S&W with the 2-piece barrel. No issues with lead ammo.

I love mine. I got it for penies. Has the Ti cylinder and a different color barrel. Guy had no clue what he had when he sold it for $350.

I've shot about 100rnds through it 158gr .357 speer gold dots. Hurts a little but I like it. I hate the front sight.

Love this little bang stick.

If you're going to use it as a carry gun, put Crimson Trace LG-105 Laser Grips on it, load it with .38's, practice point-shooting and laser sighting and put it in a pocket holster. Oh, and that front sight you hate? You can just ignore it. :)

That is a great price for a 340PD.:)

There is value in S&W making available such a great carry piece without Military and Law Enforcement shields and markings.
