I'll be coming into a new 340PD this week and have a question regarding the Ti cylinder. I have some MC #7 Firearm Bore Cleaner, Shooter's Choice and wanted to know if I could use this on the Ti cylinder after shooting. If not is there something better? This is slated to become my EDC so I want to make sure to take proper care of it.

On ti cylinders I have always used hoppes elite pump spray. Mild & odorless & doesn't hurt the coating on the ti cylinder. I have found that they clean up easily even without a brush.

^^^^what he said. There was a recent thread on just this topic. I bought Hoppe's Elite as several posters said it would not damage the finish on the ti cylinder. I've never been reluctant to use the standard Hoppe's #9, but those little 340 PD chickenpluckers are expensive, so why tempt fate...

From one old cop to another, you are going to love your new 340PD.

Well, except if you shoot full house 158 gr magnums in it. The first time that I did that, I seriously thought that I had broken a bone in my hand. I now shoot the Speer 135gr Gold Dot .357 magnum Short Barrel load. It is specifically made for the short barrels, and I have posted elsewhere my experience with this load and confidence in it.

Fully loaded, including the pocket holster that I use, it weighs less than a pound, and in my right front jeans pocket I don't even notice the weight, and no one has ever noticed the gun.

Oh, yeah, I never use a brush on my tI cylender either. Just a patch and a mild cleaning soulotion...I have used the Shooters Choice that you mention...it cleans up very easily, but no harsh chemicals or metal brushes are needed.

Best Regards, Les

Thanks Les, been carrying the 340M&P and I know the PD is lighter.
I notice no difference. I have owned the 340PD since they came out and the M&P340 since 2008. I alternate between the two or carry both. I, too, use the Speer GDHP 135gr for short-barrels. I am truly happy with both.

Cleaning is with the Hoppe's.

USE NOTHING WITH AMMONIA IN IT ALSO ERASER FROM A PEN TO TAKE THE BURNT RINGS OFF CYLINDER. HOPPES ELITE CLEANER OR EEZOK I AM SURE HAS NO AMMONIA IN IT. THAT TITANIUM CYLINDER IS NICE AND LIGHT BUT CLEANING YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO MESS UP THE COATING ON IT. LOADS ON THE BBL NO LESS THAN 120 GRAIN IS FOR 357 MAGS NOT 38SPL SO IF YOU CARRY 110 GRAIN 38 SPL (SHOOT) YOU WILL NOT GET TITANIUM EROSION. I CALLED SMITH AND WAS NOT GOING TO BUY THE 340 PD BECAUSE I LIKE CORBON DPX 110 GRAIN 38SPL. UNTIL TONY FROM S&W TOLD ME THAT'S FOR 357 MAG NO LESS THEN 120 GRAIN NOT 38SPL. GOOD CHOICE GREAT GUN THE ONLY THING I CHANGED WAS THE GRIP I USE THE LASER BOOT GRIP NOT FOR THE LASER BUT CRIMSON TRACE LG-405 HAS A NICE PIECE OF RUBBER ON THE BACK STRAP TAKES A LOT OF THE RECOIL OUT. HELPS GUN FROM SLAMMING THE BACK OF YOUR HAND. LASER GRIP IS A SMALL BOOT GRIP GOOD FOR CCW SMALLEST LASER GRIP FOR J FRAME IS THAT LG 405. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW PIECE.

Same here from this old ex-cop. I wish this had been around during my detective days when I carried a 642 on the ankle. I love how light this is. It's easily as light as the Ruger LCP II mouse gun, but with a lot more wallop.

I just got mine and have just done one range trip and cleaning. I used old Hoppes and a nylon brush, but think I'll try a milder solvent and just a cotton cloth going forward. I hear replacement cylinders run close to $200 if you screw one up. I don't want to find out.

Yup... She draws blood on both ends. Definitely not a range gun. It even stings with standard pressure .38's.. Full house .357 is outright sadistic. I'll just shoot a few rounds every year to make sure I can hit what I need too. NOT fun to shoot at all, but the best warm weather EDC weapon I've ever owned. For it's intended use, it's PERFECT! This time of year when not working, I am in shorts and a t-shirt. This baby pocket carries like a dream.

I ran some full house .357 through my 340 M&P so I understand!

Over th many years I have owned a 340PD I have cleaned it with a variety of cleaners except anything containing ammonia.
Great carry gun when you really want to go light.
Mine with LG405 grips which I highly recommend.

If my calculations are right the 340PD will weigh about the same as my LCP & I feel more confiednt carrying a small revolver than an auto this small.

Agreed. I held a loaded LCP II in one hand and a loaded 340PD in the other for several minutes, then swapped hands. I could NOT tell the difference in weight. I'm sure there is a little, but I could not notice.

I too feel better with 5 x .357 magnum...

Use MPRO-7 for all of your cleaning needs. I recommend it for all of my students and used it for the departmental guns when I was the armorer. If you follow their instructions, you cannot go wrong.

Nick

Thanks! You get post of the week. I never heard of that stuff and just got some today. I used it and it worked better than anything that I've ever used before. I'll never use Hoppes again.

ti cylinder

I use either m-pro 7 or hoppes elite on both of my titanium cylinders..I choose to leave the scorch marks alone other than wiping the residue off with a cotton rag soaked in either cleaner. I think where a few people have gotten in trouble stems from going at the titanium with a wire brush after shooting a lot and then getting too obsessive trying to get it back to like new..I say leave em a little less than surgically clean and as long as they function fine good enuff. I have even shot (gasp!) Hard cast lead in mine, mind you just a few, then followed by jacketed copper rounds to blow the lead out and have not had any trouble with lead build up or noticed any difference in the looks of the bore or chambers after cleaning. On a side note Buffalo Bore wad cutters are EXTREMELY accurate out of my 340PD @ 7yds it's a most a ragged hole. The Gold Dot 357.short barrel load aint too shabby either about a 1 3/4 in group if Im fresh. I did have to remove and file the front sight base to get it regulated.but now it's spot on in my hands.

As an aside I took the 340PD to the range yesterday and ran a few .38 range loads and some +P through it. The first five rounds hit center mass w/one ragged hole for all five. Amazing accuracy. Pocket carrying all day there is no difference in weight between it and my LCP.
