357 Magnum - 200 gr cast LRN load data???

Looked all over but cannot find credible load data for 357 Mag and 200 gr Magnus cast RN. I'm using either Unique or HP38/231.

Perhaps 4.5 grs HP38 would be a good starting point???

Any experiences out there with this combo?

Lee lists 5.5gr of 231 as a max load and 6gr of Unique with a 200gr lead bullet.

My first thought....

My first thought was Lyman but I checked the 49th edition and the heaviest bullets is 170 gr and they don't even show Unique. I can't find my Cast Reloading book, but it has about the same thing as the 49th.

I have always considered 180 gr about the heaviest in 357 mag. That is just my opinion . I never shot it slow . I used a slightly compressed load of W296 .
So for your lighter load I don't have much to contribute . My concern would be will it shoot accurately or will it start to tumble and keyhole further out ? At close range you might not notice this . Bullet drop and penetration will definitely be a problem with that lighter load of a faster burning powder with that heavy of a bullet .
The NYC police dept used a 200 gr in their 38special for awhile . Police officers when faced with shooting at the bad guys speeding away in a car would shout out , " halt or I will scratch your paint " !
Elmer Keith complained that his 173 gr swc was too heavy in a 38 special , but he continued to use it exclusively . Your experience will be interesting to read so please keep us posted . Good Luck

I'm fairly sure the Lyman 4th Edition Cast Bullet Handbook has the data you are looking for but I can't check right now.
